Hey BH! Got your PM, couldn't remember if our discussion was in Speakers or Amps Asylum, try here 1st. I got the Crown XLS 1500s last week and used them to bi-amp my Gallo Ref. 3.1s - 1 amp runs both top halves and the 2nd amp runs the woofers' secondary voice coils.
The sound is astonishing, those 2nd voice coils really woke up with 525 watts put to 'em. I bypassed the Crowns' crossovers because the flexibility of the Emotiva XMC-1's crossovers was much better. I definitely recommend this upgrade, the Gallos were made to have those 2nd voice coils driven. I now effectively have stereo subwoofers co-located with my main speakers making for a very tight, cohesive sound from top to bottom.
With the Crowns going for fire sale prices ($199 delivered), this is a great time to get the amp power these speakers deserve. And, BTW, the mids and top end have not suffered at all, the Crowns are very smooth, fast, sweet, and clear - everything I look for in a speaker/amp combo...

I'm interested
A Sherbourn 5/1500A - beefy, 2 channel amp putting out about 300 watts/channel into 4 ohms to drive the 2nd voice coils. The Crowns will output 525 watts into 4 ohms. Perhaps the extra wattage is helping to firm up and extend the lowest octaves, I'm not sure. But I can definitely attest to the fact that the lowest octaves are indeed more prevalent - but not boomy at all.
I wish I had done this before, it was well worth the $400 I spent!

good news, it is amazing isn't it?I am very happy I took the advice here and did the same configuration.
These speakers (Gallo Ref 3.5) can be had new for less than $4k a pair on the discontinued market, with your recommendation figure $4.4k, add a preamp and a source and you got something mind blowing.
the sound is very delicate to put it no other terms, very exquisite.
thanks for the info, good listening.
