Trickle down stuff; tweeter coating, crossover upgrades. Probably similar to what was introduced in the Confidence II range a few years ago. The main result in the Confidence II was a little bit fuller, richer sound that's better at low-medium volume levels.
Given the big improvements in the Focus line while the Contour line has stood pat, the two lines were becoming close to equivalent in performance and in price. The S1.4 and S3.4 LE upgrades are trying to differentiate them again. But I suspect this might be the last hurrah for the Contour.
For that matter, it can't be too long before the Confidence line gets a major overhaul or gets axed.

Hi, Dave,
For my money, the S1.4 was a good investment. I've enjoyed them for seven years now and they continue to make me smile whenever I listen to music. I probably couldn't afford them now and have been thinking about what to do once the drivers and/or cross-overs need to be replaced. If Dynaudio can rebuild them for a reasonable price that's what I'll probably do.
Regards,
Tom
I don't think you have to worry about that any time soon.
On the other hand, the current Contour and Confidence models have been around for quite a while now. At some point they're going to be replaced, and at that point I would expect used prices to drop and you could score a nice pair of used C1s for less than what you paid for the S1.4.
