I just heard Andrew Jones demo the new ELAC Debut F5. These are seriously good speakers. Excellent deep taut bass. It's a clean crisp presentation, but not in any way etched or hard. At their price of less than $600 for a pair I've heard nothing better. Ever.

Folks.....notice the $13,000 worth of Shunyata line conditioning that was used....
Read this: http://www.audiostream.com/content/shunyata-research-hydra-triton-v2-hydra-typhon-hydra-dpc-6-v2-and-%CE%BEtron%E2%84%A2-%CF%83-sigma-ac-power#yvp1ybxD59Dvs5Vd.97
This is seriously great line conditioning.....now this does not take away from what Andrew did here....but really.....your old Advents would sound great with this much line conditioning. The line conditioning costs twice as much as all the other parts: preamp/DAC, source, amp and speakers.
Reading the above review, I want the Shunyata stuff, not the speakers....I already have great speakers.
The Elac speakers may well be the best at this price point ever....so enjoy.....just sayin.
It's a good idea at these shows because the whole floor can sag quite a bit with giant amps running in every room. I've stuck a DVM in the wall at one of these shows and watched the voltage drop from 120 to about 105 as the day began.
Part-Time Audiophile says the F5s are a bag of chips!
The next series should be a bag of Doritos - "Oh, and just a tease but CES will showcase another suite of speakers from ELAC and Jones, one level up from this "Debut" series. Expected prices will be in the $1000-$1500 range." by Part-Time Audiophile October 4, 2015
While these are very good I think his next line up will be the ones to watch for in an affordable speaker.
THE Show Newport 2015
"Best Sound (for the money): The Andrew-Jones-designed Elac Debut B6 ($229 per pair--that's not a misprint) may not only be the greatest bargain at the Newport show, but may turn out to be the greatest bargain in the history of audio. This tiny econo-box was spectacularly, stunningly, amazingly great for the price. I can't wait to hear the higher-end speakers Jones is developing for Elac." by Robert Harley of the absolute sound Jun 4th, 2015
---------
"The price given above is not a typo (!). Nevertheless, the demo pair produced jaw-dropping sound--and not just "for the money." It was naturally weighted with a smooth yet detailed top end, uncolored mids, surprisingly solid and extended lows, and superb imaging. Overall, it was far closer to true high-end sound for little bucks than simply the cheap-and cheerful result you often get from budget speakers. But Andrew has been here before, with the Pioneer speakers he designed over the last few years.
It would be an exaggeration to say that this was the best sound I heard at the show, but if the production versions do as well (and we have no reason to expect that they won't), the ELAC Debut series could well show a clean set of heels to some of its competitors selling for many times the price.
There will also be other Andrew Jones-designed ELAC speaker lines, up to and including very high-end models. Electronics are also in the pipeline. Expect the next range up from the Debut, likely sometime later in 2016, to employ Andrew's favored concentric driver units (with the tweeter located at the apex of the woofer/midrange). That will allow for an optimum, three-way center speaker for home theater fans."

If anyone deserves the accolades he has been given of late, it Andrew Jones.
If I never own a pair of speakers he designed I still feel I owe him a debt of gratitude for the contribution he is making to the future of this hobby, which up till now, or at least of late, has had no real quality entry-point and therefore not a lot of people 'entering'.
Perhaps my imagination, but seems like more than a few 'millennial's' at this years meeting.
Thanks! for sharing-
Thanks for posting your impressions. I'm looking for new speakers and I'm very interested in hearing the F5 and the F6. I'm curious to see how these might compete against pricier offerings. Currently I'm using Mr. Jones creation from Pioneer, the SP-FS52-LR. They are outstanding.
I've narrowed down contenders to the B&W 683S2 and the Monitor Audio Silver 8. Any chance you could offer comparisons of the F5 to either speaker? If the F5 or F6 could come close to what I like about the B&W or the Monitors I would love to be able to get them and save considerable money.
Cheers,
Scott
I can't help with a comparison as I don't have sufficient familiarity. I can only tell you that the F5 Debut is a truly exceptional speaker. I think if you're in the market anywhere near that price range you'll be doing yourself a disservice not to hear them. Going back for more tomorrow. They aren't going to replace my Ryan Speakers 620 but damned if Andrew Jones hasn't done it again.
Thanks for the reply, Gary. I look forward to hearing them.
Just a couple of questions: How did the finish look? Did you happen to get a chance to compare the B5/B6 to the F5?

Here's a photo of the F5 from RMAF.
The F5 looks really good. I saw photos with some little feet under them and I am kind of wishing I pre-ordered the F5's instead. I have the Pioneer FS 52 and the layout reminds me of that speaker. Thanks for the photo!
ELAC decided to forgo the usual vinyl finish in favor of a brushed aluminum look. It's very well done. There are no visible screws or holes on the baffle. I'll post a photo tomorrow.
The room was very crowded so it was hard to get a look but from what I could tell the finish is first- rate. They don't look cheap at all. Andrew said come back later or tomorrow morning to hear the smaller speakers. For anyone interested they're using Roon as their source. Really nice.
Gary, please post in detail on the B5 and B6. Thanks.
Bill
ELAC decided to demo only the F5 at RMAF this year. What he did tell me was that The F5 and B5 sound is identical, with the obvious exception that the F5 has deeper bass. I heard them again this morning. They're absolutely remarkable when considering the restrictions of designing for this price point.
I think these are a 'first product' and the next will be maybe double the price.

Andrew says most of the entire line is available now, with the balance to follow within a week. For now the F5 is the top of the line.
