It's not necessarily a smart thing for the dealer to offer. For one thing, if you are used to the sound of your speakers, you are likely to prefer them in the dealer setup as well.
OTOH, it's kind of a dare...if you want to shlep in and out with your stuff, they are more willing to let you do that than to loan you a pair to take home.
I don't think I would ever buy another speaker with a metal done tweeter, the crossovers are in the ear's most sensitive range (as with mot conventional tweeters), and there's that huge response peak/resonance at over 20k that you may not be able to hear, but you may be able to otherwise sense it; in the long run, it might be grounds for another 'speaker upgrade'.

Thanks for the tip. Actually, I've changed my mind. If I sell my 1230s, it will be on ebay. Then I'll go speaker hunting, focusing on a floor standing Polk model. I was really impressed with the LSiM705s when I heard them a few months ago. Their retail ($3000) is the same as the CM9.
I'll also be auditioning the 75T and RTiA9. My great fear is buying speakers that don't sound as satisfying as the 1230s did in my listening room. Back in the day, a/d/s made some great speakers, some that sound as good if not better than many available now.
The store didn't have the B&W CM9 in stock but they did have the Polk RTiA7, Polk's penultimate speaker in their "monitor" series, a few steps down from the LSis. It didn't have enough base for my tastes. Also, it sounded somewhat constricted compared with my 1230s.
