The presentation of the Matrix 805 is far better than the CDM1. I've enjoyed a pair of B&W Matrix 805 for many years now, with no desire to replace them. When I evaluated a pair of CDM1 for a second system, the sonic signature was very disappointing. I find most folks who are B&W fans share the same opinion of the CDM1 vs. the Matrix 805.

Keep in mind I have the CDM1SE speakers, not the CDM1.
From what I gathered (IIRC), the CDM1SE was a Mark II version, not a major design overhaul. Some folks reported they prefer the original CDM1 vs. the CDM1SE. YMMV
I used to own the B&W CDM7SE, your tower versions and compared it to my neighbors B&W Matrix 804. It was no comparison. The Matrix 804 sounded much more open and live. So much so, that my CDM7SEs sounded muffled. I would expect much of the same for the bookshelf version.
