What amplifier are you using? A 30 watt tube amp according to a system post I read. Not a good match for Harbeth speakers, unless the combination floats your boat. If it does with the grilles off, then enjoy. The sacrilege is the mismatch with the amplifier. I do not have any current Harbeth, but some older ones, but over the years have found more happy users with high powered solid state amps. Speaking of users, maybe you should confess your sins at the Harbeth user group.

In addition, one of the biggest Harbeth dealers on the west coast used my Joule amps to demo his system at a local show to prove that high powered 6C33 based SET is a GREAT match for the C7s (the Joules are a poor mans Lamm.) The change is happening because my listening tastes are changing. I probably should just get different speakers but I want to try to enjoy these as long as I can.
Sorry- Haven't updated the profile since recent changes. Still, you are being sort of rude. I guess that's why people always leave this board for other friendlier places. I thought I'd try it again. Wish I hadn't.
New amp is Herron M1A. New cartridge is Lyra Delos.
....hang around here a little longer if you want a good demonstration of "rude". I have been anointed that title a few times myself.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you.

If people leave this board for frendlier places, it has nothing to do with me. I hardly ever post here, and I was trying to be helpful. If you have high powered amps and don't like yhe speakers, then maybe you should look for other speakers. If you do like the speakers, but with the grilles off, then enjoy them. To each his own.
I do not own any current Harbeth speakers, only older models, and there a lot of other good speakers out there.
Early-era low to mid power Plinius.
I AM NOT JOKING!
As early a Plinius 8150 as you can find, or, the Holy Grail is an SA-50 Class A single-pair of output devices. But prepare to pay.
Email me if you want contact information for someone who can rebuild and upgrade them--the former US importer.
Plinius USA for many years showed at CES with Harbeth speakers, and people were gobsmacked at how synergistic the combination was, and at very fair money!

I don't think he likes the speakers enough to look for amps that are a better fit. The Plinius amps are "known good amps" among a certain group of people. I think he would prefer a different speaker, more efficient certainly, more sparkly maybe.
And it's been a long time since anyone had to read the word "peppermintyness."
