Hi!I am a new member on this forum. Sorry for my broken English.
I owned Pioneer HPM-60, Pioneer HPM-100 and JBL LX160. Powered with Marantz 2252B or Kenwood KA-9001. The HPM was good, but too much listening fatigue. I remember the Pioneer HPM60 was best of those three.
My current vintage setup is still Marantz 2252b and the lovely Dynaco A-25, which I will never part.
I have also a setup with Arcam alpha 9 or Sony TA-FA70ES and Kef 104.2. This are a good match, but to little punch. Still they are keepers for acoustic music.
I have also a wonderful Luxman C02 and M02 set that I want speakers to.
Now, to my question.
In my area there is Pioneer CS-911a and JBL L100t availably. The JBL is double the price of the CS of course. But those 15" woofer on Pioneer CS-911a is tempting.
Could one or more owners of this speakers give me advise before trying and buying?

Thank you all for your opinion. They where too steep in price for what they are.
Thanks for replying!Charles
I think Marantz tend to be at the warmer side, not so warm as Tandberg TR1000 that Ive owned, but much warmer than Kenwood KA9100 and Rotel RB2000 that I owned and Sentec PA8 that I still own. A restoration will be done sooner or later. Hopefully before somthing blow up.I will keep your words in mind if I would listen to the CS911a. I have an idea to upgrade some caps and the tweeters to get them more up to date.

I thought of the CS mostly because that 15" moves a lot of air and they got some positive reviews. Hopefully not so tiresome for my ears. Their looks also appeal to me.fstein
I miss punch from my Dynacos. Even though they are punchy for small bookshelf speakers. At the same moment I have a chance to score on Kef 107. The owner used a Denon DT1 (or something) on them. Since Luxman goes up to 290 WPC in 4 ohm and 410 WPC in 2 ohm i think Luxman can do the job. Nearly the same price as the JBLs.

Okay...the CS 15 is in a small sealed box, so won't move
as much air as you think. And very little under 50 Hz.
Yes, they are nice to look at, but I have to choose performance
over looks. And the side by side mids/tweets don't help imaging.
Don't underestimate the fun factor in some of these goofy looking form factors. The Pioneer may eschew accuracy, but I'll bet it's a hoot when you just want to crank the volume and duck walk around the room.

Ive had CS's including 99's....Kind of like Rat Shack Mach 1's...looks
neat, but after 30 seconds, I wanted them OUT. :) I danced for
joy only when I sold them!.
But I bet the guy who bought them danced for joy as well.
Truly, there are different strokes for different folks. Not everyone cares about sound stages and image placement and PRAT. Instead, they just want the sound to be loud and in your face.
Think about it this way: if lots of folks didn't enjoy garbage sound, why are there so many speakers made to cater to that group?
JE
Yes..there's a place for "party' style speakers, and there's
a market for that, mostly younger age groups. Good point!.
In a way, I kind of envy those folks. No audiophile angst, no worrying if they are in the sweet spot, no fussing over how the system is set up. They just turn on the music and enjoy. Imagine that!
JE
True that. Listening just for fun.
listening without being critical.Who are we to say to other humans whether or not Euterpe was there or not for them at any particular moment in time, just because of the equipment they were using? If you've received a blessing, then I hope you rejoiced in the magic of the moment!

I would agree.
I had the 2252B and yes it tends to be on the very bright side. However the A-25's are a wonderful match up with them.
The 15" woofer will not bring in the bass you are dreaming about. I've had similar speakers and at some point size really does NOT count. Design counts.
I think you will find with time that the older more simpler (and discrete parts) amp designs do sound better. As technology advanced it seems the need for engineers to add tons of feedback to the amplifier circuits, eg poor dynamics, also increased.
If you can deal with the bright nature of the Marantz then stick with that. I would also consider having it restored at some point. You will never find another receiver as pretty as that!!!!!! I've had almost all the Marantz receivers. They generally were some of the best sounding and build stuff made - EVER!
charles
Why would the 15" be tempting?. Way too big for the cab., you'd
need a subwoofer. I'd have to choose the JBL over the CS.
either one is a step down from your HPM100s. What's missing from your Dynacos?
