Multiple input source selection and an additional gain stage are two different issues. For an additional gain stage with multiple source selection, a typical preamplifier is advisable.
For a basic additional gain stage with volume control, this type of inexpensive device is suitable for non-critical listening applications:

much appreciated. Had picked up Radial Engineering Pro D2 and did not realize there was not any input level controls.

I suggest upgrading the stock 12v wall wart with a linear regulated power supply.
Even an inexpensive 1A minimum linear regulated wall wart found for under $6 on eBay should sound better than what's likely an inferior sounding stock switch mode 12v wall wart.
You can also opt for a decidedly high performance yet low-cost DC-1 power supply unit found for under $60 on eBay (must ask eBay seller for 12v option).
