Thiel, is my reference at this juncture until I can audition Verity.
Musical but not as popular - Aerial, Raidho, Wilson Benesch, Vivid, Peak Consult and what has its own unique following here - Merlin.
I would agree with everyone's list (some more than others, of course) but I feel that one important speaker company should be mentioned. Sigfried Linkwitz, famous for the Linkwitz/Riley crossover, is very well known among audio engineers but his speakers are really only well known in the DIY community. After 45 years as an audiophile, and owning dozens (literally) of different speakers, Sigfried's "Orion" have been a revelation. I have not heard the LX521 but, by most accounts, it is even better than the Orions. The Orions and LX521 are a complex design, use external, active crossovers and require multi-channels of amplification. Unfortunately, for many this complexity will keep these wonderful speakers from serious consideration.

Unfortunately, for many this complexity will keep these wonderful speakers from serious consideration.
That and the use of dozens of op amps in the crossover and Siggy's utter indifference to amplifier sonic quality.
didn't mention Tannoy. My D700 sound super and I considered them almost entry level in the Tannoy line.

North American dealerships carrying certain brands will have a wider net of listeners listening to the same products - thus if 98% of the people on this forum have heard XYZ and only 2% and heard ABC - then there is obviously far less chance that ABC will be listed. So what happens is a few "popular" things will get listed more often than not. But then hey the Big Mac sells billions so it must be good. Some speakers manufacturers that make one or some speakers I would be happy to live with factoring in value for the dollar and or If I won the mega lotto

I think you've hit the nail on the head here.

your list of musical speakers and mine match very well. I would consider adding Ohm and Maggies. Each has a unique presentation, but they are musical IMO. I have been very impressed with several Focal set up that I have heard at recent shows.
Magnepan

Vandersteen
Thiel
Sterling (Harbeth, Spendor)
Quad

Here's to DYI - needs to be on the list.
The best speakers I have hear are made by:
Magnepan
Avalon
Quad
Martin Logan
Harbeth
some of the best marketed speakers on the planet, which does not necessarily equate to most significant or most musical. Most popular, yes.
The greatest impediment to advancing an audiophile system is the audiophile.
Most enjoyable to pass through here,

I would replace B&W with Quad.

The most musical and significant may not be the most popular.
There are obscure companies that build better sounding speakers than ones we've all heard of.
"Popular" could be due to great marketing, or deep pocket manufacturers who can distribute world wide.
I'm interested in your list of most musical and significant.I'd say leave B&W on there. I had a pair of original 802 and hated them,
but B&W have been a mainstay in hi end over the years with tons of R&D.
