I love the M4! My concern and reason for asking the question is what if I'm not crazy with the sound? Do I return the speakers or upgrade the amp? If the intergenerational combo should work and I don't like the speakers then I will suspect there is something wrong with them or perhaps just not to my taste. But if it sounds bad and the M4 is not a good match then I may look for another amp too.
The good news is it sounds like it should work!

Don't waste your time (and money!) swapping electronics, they make small differences at best. The key to a good sounding system is to find speakers that work well in your room and suit your preferences. Once you've accomplished that, you can fine tune with the electronics...

Don't let these guys talk you out of the Yamaha, it's a great sounding amplifier.
Only problem I have with those is they can sound real nasty when you push them over into clipping.
Is that a real issue?
No, probably not. I don't listen too loud. I've spent too much time in the military, on a motorcycle and listening to music. I am now paranoid about hearing loss. I'm still within normal but not great.
