Would you pay $1500 for these diy speakers?
I wonder how good of a conductor is a 10d finish nail?
I think he needs a new hobby.

Oops, one too many zeros. I listened to them on youtube, oddly enough they sounded exactly like my $150 computer speakers.
Actually it sounded like my $25 computer speakers. That's weird.
Love the comment "trust me, I know what I'm doing" ...
In the associated pics notice the tweeter's position ON THE FLOOR! Not to mention the choice of cheap big box plywood to construct the enclosures. And Mylar caps in the crossover? Those speakers are a complete joke. Barely worth the cost of the drivers.
And yet despite the look on my face, you're still talking.

Like the custom work.... though I do think the decimal point is missing from the price.

And no specs.

only after several demo sessions. Could be the next Arnie Nudell....

At least he should have organised the room before taking the photo.

You'd think he'd at least use a circle cut router jig!

No taste at all. The speakers appearance is about as ugly as the family truckster auto in the movie Vacation.
PE has those woofers on sale for $12 ea.
The 275-070 Tweeters are a long-time favorite of DIYers and there are tons of home brew speakers out there that use them. current price is 19.75 ea.
i have 2 pr of speakers running those here
If a famous speaker maker who makes $20K speakers took some low-buck components and made a $1500 entry level design that happened to sound good - especially compared to other $1500 designs - then it has good value.
This guy wants to be paid for his time, and I get that.
But the finish is deplorable and whether or not they meet the design criterion he claims they do is another matter entirely.
Let's see that step response! ;)
Cheers,
Presto
I agree. If he had offered and exquisitely veneered cabinet with a good looking & properly implemented crossover board I would not have been shocked at his price. As it is this is an experimental project to see if the design has the possibility to make a pre-production unit.
Hes no skilled cabinet maker, thats for sure
How could you *not* know the name of that esteemed vehicle?!!
My favorite part is when they strapped grandma onto the roof! Closely followed by dragging the dog behind for several miles - OUCH!!

The string grill is worth at least 1K if it is virgin cotton havrvested at midnight by nubile 15 year old girls!
For $1500 you can buy a pair of the best sounding active monitors I've ever heard.
And I don't mean $150K!!!

They may look more than a little ugly & cobbled together, but they seem to sound OK. :)
You do realize that you are listening to your own speakers in the youtube video.
A $12.00 Goldwood woofer with a Qt of 1.1? I really like the line 'Trust me, I know what I'm doing.' After all, they ARE audiophile quality nails...
It must be a joke....
It must be a joke
You forgot to mention the pine veneered cabinet grade plywood cabinets.

That's really funny!
You laugh, but I think that's how Arnie Nudell started!
Odds aren't real good, but hard to tell from a craigslist ad.Maybe one day some collector in the far East will be paying $40K for a pair.
I'm not sure 6 pieces of string is an adequate grille and it does concern me that he likes his tweeters on the floor.

... I'd offer an absolute minimum of $2.75K.
That hand spun twine using 32 gauge heat-fused Kevlar thread is worth the price alone.

First thing I thought of when I saw the crossover was the nails likely cost more than a cheap solder type terminal strip. I was expecting some audiophile superlative about them.

It is really odd that he didn't solder the cap and resister leads to each other, and every solder is a cold joint. Amazing.

He's been at it for 8 years!
Before posting this, I checked out his youtube video.
I imagined a 30 year old or younger guy, impressed with himself and confident there are others on his level who clearly see his genius.
Looks like the room of a kid just out of college, in his first place.
Add a little creepy factor in there also.
Good observations.
I likewise thought he was overly impressed with himself. I've met many people like that. Must be the result of the new training of growing up and being praised for everything they do. Like the teaching that everyone getting a trophy in a sporting event so as not to hurt any feelings.
Yeah, that's philosophy won't hit a reef later in life!
no
Would you?
