Who makes "white van speakers"? Where do they come from?

Here...
I went into a pawn shop a few years ago and noticed there weren't any white van speakers there. This is unusual, at least around here. I asked a guy working there and he said he recognizes them and doesn't buy them. He said they are typically assembled from kits that are imported from cheap labor countries. It explains why I've seen several accounts of people taking them apart and finding the crossover isn't hooked up, or there isn't one, or not all of the drivers are connected.
Imagine how boring the internet would be if folks were as civil here as they are in person.
All you need is a phone number for contact.I can have drivers made, shipped to a cabinet company, who will install and ship to my dealers, with nothing more than a phone number.
A friend and I did this as a sort of joke about fourty years ago. We had an 8" two-way with a piezo in a vinyl clad cabinet, about $15 cost (plus freight). We called them AARDVARK 99's, and used them to demo against (other stores selling private label junk). Hooked up four per side they would make a lot of noise, and didn't sound totally horrible. Some people actually bought them on the building-block-plan, adding pairs as they could afford them (at $75 a pair).
We didn't pretend they were anything other than what they were though, a good inexpensive noise-maker.

They're all plastic crap that looks like knockoffs of the cutesy little Bose cubes and an unpowered sub knock off of the Bose sub. I've read online that some of the brands have concrete poured into the backs of the speakers to provide "heft" that at least hints at quality.
I saw a pair of Dahlton towers at Salv Army a few weeks ago. Went back today and they haven't sold at the asking price of $49.99. Unbelievably cheap fit and finish. On the negative side, the Vanderbach 5.1 home theater system was gone. Maybe someone gutted the "speakers" and are using them as planters?

"E Burres Stigano?"
No idea but it may be the largest volume speakers manufacturer in the world today.
My neighbor across the street in December for a heck of a deal from a nice lady in the Pets Mart parking lot. She was trying to load some boxes that could not fit so the neighbor parked next to her ended up with air of floor standing Klepsch speakers on the cheap. She remembered I have a pair and love them so if good enough for me, then good enough for her. She has them hooked to a Teac mini system that actually sounds decent with its included speakers.
She had me over and was gushing. I did not have the heart to tell her the truth that these were not from the same company. The cabinets actually are not too bad. After seeing some from Klipsch I think the Klepsch may be better. These had 2" woofers mounted vertically a mid and 2 tweeters all centered in the baffle so no need to mirror image. The binding posts are usable but inexpensive 5-way and the speakers are big-amp capable, assuming the 4 terminals are hooked up and 2 are not dummies. There is a thing copper strap setting them up for a single stereo amp. They are rated at 10-500 watts and 25-40,0000 hz, no spec as to deviation. There is a lot of gibberish regarding the drivers. As I tried to understand it, I finally decided the magnets were like 3lbs of gum rubber or something. The woofers and midrange are butyl surrounds, again least not for and the tweeter is somewhat close to what looks like the ADS styling and is soft dome.
Surprisingly, these things are heavier than expected. About the same weight as my The Smaller Advents so, unless there is a brick in them between the cabinet and drivers there is some weight. As for sound, well that too was a surprise. Not harsh or shrill, some coloration from all instruments, the transition between drivers was better than a lot of speakers I have heard but I could hear it. The neighborhood could not. I suspect it may be just related to the crossover points and order. Compared to stuff in the price range I have heard at several area big box store, these things did pretty well. Not, not equal to the msrp of $1,599 printed on the box. Not up to even The Smaller Advents or my ADS L300s but she paid $125 for them. They were asking $275 but in no mood to negotiate longer when she mentioned there was an OPP drawing up.
She is happy with them and they are not objectionable with her music, she is from Jamaica so, island music and Marley play 8 hours a day over there.
On paper stapled to the back and on the box there are the terms of the lifetime warranty but no address, telephone #, Web Site, etc.
Now, if they would make a nice Vitt to honor the VoTTs and sell it for maybe $75...

I remember what happened the last time I got into your van!
He's the importer/exporter guy I think.
.
Art Vandelay runs that organization. Short, rotund, bald guy, right?
-RW-
Beware of this Vandelay guy
If you ever might want to do business with them, it's best not to point out the balding.
:)
Aren't they also architects? Perhaps Marine Biologists?
Probably. Maybe.
But that stuff just makes "good" stuff even better...
There are thousands of factories in China cranking out consumer electronics. Many are working under contract to some brand name holding company. I'm sure they've figured out that if they can produce some rock bottom price copycat stuff, they can find a buyer.
