RS1B. Purchased in 1985 when first came out. Crossover was updated by manufacturer just before brought out Betas. Love the speaker. Have large room with high ceilings. Use VTL 300 on the mid tweeter panel. One EMIT went out but repaired by Bill Thalman. Have listened to almost all the competition and none came close without spending well over $100,000. I am actually auditioning the Legacy Audio Aeris tomorrow. RS1Bs excell at soundstaging, dynamics, bass. Not as transparent as the top Vandys but they cannot play as loud not fill a large room. Still if your room is of average and you do not turn up the volumn the top Vandys are worth a listen.

I agree. I heard the Betas at Lyric in NYC when they first came out as set up by Mike Kay. They were incredible but the RS1Bs were around $5500 and the Betas over $10,000 at that time (late 80s). Kay was an incredible set up may as well as their best salesman and I believe the owner of Lyric at that time.
I also go to Lyric I heard the RS1B they using Mark Levinson 4 mono blocks Mr Kay had stock in Levinson so he would push ML. I heard the 4.5s at CSA audio in NJ with Audio Research tube amps. With the tube driving the 4.5s sounded better in terms of Sound Stage the speakers disapeared. One must use tube amps for the 4.5s RS1B and the Betas for the midrange/tweeters
Lyric had A used betas in the window years ago $4.500 Exc condition Stereo Exchange also had A used pair near mint $6.000
