I currently have my Totem Mani-2 Signature speakers sitting on sand filled Target stands. My tweeter sits at 36 inches. I was thinking of placing the stands on a three inch thick maple plinth. The tweeter will still not be at full seated ear level but will be much closer to optimum. What do the patients of this asylum think about the plan? Will there be any benefits?

If you try a plinth, I suggest trying different materials because it will affect the sound. I tried wood and concrete blocks and the wood was awful. But I suspect it also depends on what wood and how thick, etc. which I didn't pursue further.
I am thinking of doing the same thing. Floorstanders...on spikes and spike shoes (came with speakers...nothing fancy). Thinking of just a 3/4" mdf board OR 1 1/4" bamboo cutting board. Bamboo would cost a lot more than mdf...wondering if it would "sound" better. What do you guys think?
I think you need to just try different materials. I thought replacing concrete blocks with wood might be better. It was way worse. In your set up maybe nothing is better.
It depends on resonant feedback. For instance if there is little resonance I believe hard pointed feet are best. But if there's feedback into the rest of the system decoupling may be better even though it's not ideal. But if you gain more by decoupling than you lose that's the best compromise.
I think that short peoples legs won't come anywhere near the floor and they'll look like little kids sitting in whatever you have that 39" high tweeters put one higher than that.
I've never seen a sofa or chairs that are that high. Bar or other stools maybe. I'm puzzled.

All measurements are to the centre of the tweeter and to the middle of the ear. You forgot to account for the length of the body. The chesterfield is not 39 inches, the ear level is. Even Ruth Anne would have an ear level in excess of 36 inches.
