I've been trying to get a pair of Magnepan MMGs to sound right in my small 10x13 room for six months now and I'm getting ready to make a change. I like everything they do with the exception of a harsh forwardness in the upper mid range that I have not been able to remedy. I listened to a pair of Audio Monitor Silver 1s at my local dealer yesterday and came away fairly impressed. I went in to audition Paradigm Studio 10s but I ended up liking the Silver 1s more. They just sounded smoother and more refined to my ears. Anyone here have experience with these speakers? I'd like to get some opinions.

Follow Ups:
Well I borrowed the Silver 1s over the weekend and after several hours of listening and based on what I heard from a pair of Silver RX-2s they had in house I've decided to go with the new model Silver 2s. The older RX series 2s had better bass definition although I liked the mid range of the newer 1s more. These speakers have had significant changes made so I'm banking on getting the bass definition I heard from the RX-2s along with the mid range I like from the 1s. If anyone's interested I'll report my findings when I have the new speakers.

I like the Audio Monitor Silver series a lot and will be adding a pair of the 8s or 10s to my family room for music and TV. I think they are one of the better values out there.
I too am considering a purchase of the Monitor Audio Sliver series. I auditioned the Silver 10's, center and FX. I thought the Sliver 10's sounded a little "boomy" in the 200-400hz range but it could be the demo room too. It was a small room. I am impressed by the fit and finish and the tweeter seems revealing enough. Would be interested in others thoughts.
Take care,
Keith
It would be great if your dealer would let you bring a pair home to audition. After all, the only opinion that counts is yours!
Good luck,

Actually they will, and I plan on doing that this weekend.

I have the MA RX2's. A good rock solid speaker. Not the end line in detail, but a good solid speaker. It states that it can get down to 40hz - and guess what - it DOES!!! It also handles a wide variety of amps well. Not particularly picky about room placement. Easy to setup.
One caveat. I did open it up and remove all the back panel fill. It really, I mean REALLY opened the sound up!
Monitor Audio makes a good solid speaker. And excellent quality parts.

I had a pair in my 10x10 office - loved them. They sounded great on bookshelves in the corner angled in.
Put a $500 SVS sealed subwoofer on that system and it will blow your mind.
I love Magnepans but this is a system I'd rather have than MMG's. They're very fussy about room, amp, etc.
