Generally speaking, a speaker with a high and relatively flat impedance curve is more tube friendly. I find this to be more important than high efficiency.
A lot also depends on the kind of tube sound you desire. I happen to dislike most high-powered pentode and tetrode tube amps and so "tube friendly" means speakers that can be powered by 20 watts or less. If it needs substantially more than this, I would be looking at solid state amps.
Follow Ups:
Bring back the older Berning and Melos amps that put out over 200watts/channel with triode driven output tubes.
I was never a big fan of high powered tube amps. My Sherwood at 20 watts just sings with my Zaph SR-71 speakers AND subwoofer.
I think it comes down to what sound you like and just trial and error on the speakers.
Under about 6-9W, sensitivity gets to be an issue, as well.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
