I'm looking for a bookshelf speaker that you can actually PUT ON A BOOKSHELF.
$1000 - $2000 grand.
The P3ESR is a good example, but it's just not worth the over two grand they're asking for it.

I think you would like the Peachtree Audio D4 alot but unfortunately they are out of your price range.
I am contemplating a bookshelf application and am focused on single source full range speakers.
I am looking hard at Audio Nirvana's drivers and cabinets.
The bigger the cabinet the better. So... the question for me is to either use a "drop in" cabinet or have a carpenter bake the speaker cabinet into the bookshelf for a little extra volume.
.., only a few are what might be called "near-wall" speakers.
You already know about The Clue, which is specifically designed for near-wall placement, but that speaker measures just over 10" deep.
Using a pair of B&W 805 Matrix in the living room.
You can get a nice pair well under the lower end of your price range. Heck, ask nicely, and I'll sell you my beautiful pair for $700. :) But, you'd have to ask REALLY nicely, because they're getting quite a bit of use lately, and I'm a bigger fan of B&W than I am of Gallo (and I'm running Gallo Nucleus Reference 3s in the shop.)
Otherwise? Have you considered the Gallo Strada? That's right around 7" deep when you figure in the little stand.
What is your opinion on B&W 685 bookshelf speakers? I am having a tough time with a pair. Simply cant like it at all. Are there seconds sold in sealed box?

I've owned the 805 Nautilus (AWESOME when set up right and with a good subwoofer), and currently the 805 Matrix (quite nice, but not in the kind of setup or room I had the Nautilus version running.)
Honestly haven't heard many B&W speakers beyond their 800 series, so couldn't give any valid input.

'cept they're 10.25" deep....
The Manual and their website say 190mm (7.5") deep.
(Height, Width, Depth) 470 x 275 x 190mm (18.5" x 10.8" x 7.5").
Maybe you looked at the the shipping dimensions which are 570mm (h) x 375mm (w) x 290mm (d)
per loudspeaker
I measured mine...but I measured the wrong speakers!
So yeah, 7 1/2 inches.

You gotta hear it to believe it if you value sophisticated mid range

I have to second John's recommendation of the Vandersteen VLR Wood. I downsized into an apartment and these were just the speaker I was looking for. I have them on stands within 5 inches of the wall and they sound amazing.
Audio Note K/LX or K/Spe - second hand for between $1k to $2K depending on age.
Audio Note AX Two $1,000 new - but 9.25' deep.
How they would do on a bookshelf is tough to say - if it is ON the shelf probably fine if you can raise them off the shelf with blu-tac and the shelf is very sturdy.
Minimum power 7 watts
and 24lbs each - easy to move around.
Here's the AN K

Triangle titus or comete
exactly 9 deep.
Do you know James Audio? They have one model within your requirements.
Cheers

... depending on the application. Also, unless a speaker is specifically designed for near-wall placement it may not sound quite right when placed on a bookshelf - just as true "bookshelf" speakers usually won't sound very good when placed far away from room boundaries.

Just some reviews that were positive. For the price it looks like a real bargain,I just might order the kit at about $400 for my second system.
M&k made a great sub sat system way back.

That's tiny and would work on a bookshelf.
