Hi and thanks a lot for the very helpful advice
You refer to woofers or tweeters ?
I am a little hesitating because a little more can by newer active monitors
But the Matrix construction must be sublime
And when i read words like ... the sound detached from the speakers ... great soundstage rendition ... this is my main aim in a set-up
I have never heard a set-up with a great image that sounds bad
A system/speaker great at 3D sounds very very good
Thanks a lot again
Kind regards,

Tweeters especially
Hi and thanks again
Well i think that a couple of tweeters is easier to find that a couple of woofers
I have seen Vifa models cheap and quite good
Good woofers instead are very very expensive
Kind regards,

Hi,
Just discovered your thread :-) I'm the guy selling the Active Matrix 1's. They really are that and I have the user manual, circuit diagrams and parts lists from B&W to prove it :-) When I bought them a few years back I got in touch with B&W and even they had trouble tracking down any information. It transpired that they were for a special contract that John Bowers signed with the Swiss Broadcasting Authority for studio monitors. They were never sold commercially. That said, they are a visually very attractive design and sonically wonderful. I have a favourite piece from Peer Gynt with kettle drums and I have never heard any speaker reproduce such a physical, clear 'whoompf' as the Active 1's do. It's not spectacularly deep (it's hardly big!) but physical. In the meantime I've gone other ways looking for the bass but not found their equal in presence. Anyone interested to know more, please feel free to contact me.
