This is a smoking hot deal. These are very nice speakers and a crazy bargain at $399.

He had Epos I'm pretty sure. About the only thing I agreed with him about.

...22 years ago, in the summer of '92?!
But first, let's go back to late 1987, when my friend ACS and I met at our high school. At that time, The Cover Girls' infectious "Because Of You" was tearing up the dance floors. And then, when it came time to slow it down, we awkwardly danced (and I use the word "danced" loosely) to "Promise Me." Hell, I even observed some of our schoolmates trying to kiss to this song.
In late 1989, we had at dance at San Francisco's Hall Of Flowers, which is just inside Golden Gate Park, at 9th & Lincoln. Trios of girls would sit on a ledge, and sing along to The Cover Girls' "We Can't Go Wrong." In my quarter century in audiophiledom, nothing we audiophiles do comes remotely close to girls arm-in-arm, singing, "We Can't Go Wrong."
Fast forward to the summer of 1992. This was before the internet, before cell phones. We had to rely on paper maps. I had just completed my first job. What did I want to blow the meager earnings on? High-end audio. So I took MUNI and BART to Berkeley, where I met up with ACS. She and I then hit the Berkelely/Oakland audio stores, which were off of Shattuck. Sorry, I don't recall their names or exact locations.
But for me, the speaker which stood out the most was the Epos ES11. It made most other high-end audio speakers sound congested, slow, bloated, thickened. I don't think the store's staff liked it, but ACS and played The Cover Girls' "Because Of You." The Epos ES11 better captured the speed, thrill, and "spinning round and round" dance of the song.
I loved Epos' 4-post open-frame stand. It just looked cool. At the same time, a middle-aged couple was also checking out the ES11. Of the stand, the wife told the husband, "I think it'd make a swell flower stand."
Ultimately, I passed on the ES11. I believe it was $850 withOUT the stands. Furthermore, the ES11 had countersunk banana jacks. Therefore, we would have had to purchase a bi-wire speaker cable with banana jacks, an additional expense we college kids could not afford. A preamp was my more pressing audio need.
Nevertheless, thanks for bringing up the Epos Epic 2. It nostalgically reminded me of my audition of the older ES11.

I have a pair of the ES-11 myself. They are still an amazing speaker. Very engaging. Have the ES-14 as well. They sound great with Naim but the ES-11 also sounds amazing on a Rega Brio-R.
Or has anyone else out there heard these speakers?
There are some good reviews on line, but Epos plays some funny games with the pricing on these. They were selling for $399 a year or two ago.
...a couple of years ago and like them a lot.
I paid $739 for demos - I believe they listed for $899.
$399 is a hell of a deal for the Epic 2s.
Reading RJR's reviews in Stereophile where he compares the two, the M5i has a little more detail where the Epic 2's have more bass.
Otherwise he says they are comparable.
List is $799.
There were discontinued and blown out at half price, then were gone for quite awhile.
Apparently they got in some fresh stock because they're back. I'm sure this is a 'while supplies last' kinda deal - if you want a four hundred dollar a pair of speakers I would not dally.
Yes, I've owned these. They are a very good eight hundred dollar a pair speaker.
At $399? Crazy good deal.

I've got a Nuforce DDA-100 running into PSB Image B25's that sound good enough together that I haven't had the urge to change anything. Would the Epic 2 be much of an improvement over the B25'S ? With the class D amp, an edgy tweeter would probably be best avoided. Is the Elan series a big step up from the Epic series ? While I'm at it, how far behind the LS-50 is the Epic 2 ?
Thanks Bruce
The LS-50 is definitely a step up in resolution and dynamics from the Epic 2.
I've never heard the Elan's, always been curious about them.
If they ever get discontinued and blown out I might try a pair just for fun.
Never heard the B25's.

Thanks, sounds like I better stay with the B25'S.
