Because they are ported?
I'm mystified. Why should a floor stander be boxy but a stand mount not boxy. I would think it depends on design. Some floor standers are boxy, some not. The same is true for stand mounts. And I wouldn't expect a company like Harbeth to make any boxy sounding speakers. A good company makes speakers that all have a family sound unless they are going for sales not accuracy.
And what has a port to do with it? The vast majority of speakers today are ported. Again it's design I know many ported speakers have some boxiness but again it has more to do with marketing. Ultimately a good closed box(there are lousy closed ones too) is very good sounding although ultimately a great closed box is cleaner than a great ported one. But a good ported one can be awfully good. And neither of them are perfect.
I suspect you'll end up liking both speakers. There will de small differences and they'll be trade offs but not huge ones. Harbeth is an excellent speaker company.
The 7's can sound a tad boxy in a large room -- which likely has to do with the slight dip in their upper mids. Put those same speakers in a room with sidewalls closer by (and a lower ceiling in my case) and the boxiness disappears. The room boundaries compensate for the dip, by design, I am told. I don't believe the 3's (or 30's or 40's) have the dip -- they were designed to be essentially flat monitors, at least through the midrange...
