Anyone with any experience of KEF R500
Follow Ups:
I have R300's, sound great, and REL T5 Sub. Adds another Octave Down.
All the R Series should be fine.
I have the R200c which is a center which uses the same drivers as the R500.
I love it, best center I've ever owned by a wide margin. (For the curious left/right are LS-50's).
I almost bought a set of R500's unheard but didn't have the room.
PS: If you don't have a local dealer call Stephen Monte at Quest for Sound. Great guy, been doing business with him for ten years.

Given that your L and R speakers are Kef LS50's. I've always thought most center speakers are compromised designs due to their horizontal driver arrangement, which leads to comb filtering.
A single LS50 as a center would seem like the ideal design, given its concentric tweeter and woofer arrangement (perhaps "concentric" is not the right word, but you know what I mean), and its wide, uniform horizontal dispersion dispersion.
I am curious because I am thinking of getting a single LS50 to use as a center speaker. I also wonder whether it could be used on its side, or whether sideways placement would eliminate its wide dispersion.
Uniaxial? Coaxial?
Cheers

A) The R200c fits in my cabinet.
B) I can tolerate the goofy orange cones on my left-rights, but three of them?
No.

I had a similar placement of the speaker on the shelf. But when I moved the speaker to the middle of the compartment instead of closer to the side panel, I thought the sound improved a little. This is about my BA RS26 speaker. I dont know about the KEF.

You could paint the cones black OTH there is insufficent room under your TV you have best solution as IMO the ITU setup for mch sound is not achievable in most domestic environments, furthermore I have auditioned full scale ITU setups 5 equal size floorstanders setup by the experts Eric Kingdon Sony & Ken Ishiwata Marantz and found them unlistenable, when complaining of the poor sound, the answer is room acoustics or that the speakers are not yet run in,
The R200c sounds amazing. If I had room I'd have three of them across the front!

Thanks I find the R500 sounds amazing especially for the price and will order a pair. This speaker has everything including a D'Appolito array,

I reviewed the R300 for Dagogo, so the R500 should be about the same with slightly more bass extension.
Paul Thanks excellent review I have noticed the exceptional clarity of the mid especially for female voices and I am going to order a pair of R500,s. It suprises me that no reviewer has commented upon the problem with the grill which I would prefer to keep on all the time. I will get the grill modified.

Thanks for the compliment. I didn't have any problems with the grill, so which problem are you referring?
Cheers,
Paul
The Dealer where I auditioned the R500 insisted on removing the grills which he said interfered with the sound he showed me the back of the grill which had too wide plastic support extrusions. I note you use the speakers sans grill, I much prefer the look of the speakers with the grills in place.

Hi Disbeliever - During my audition period (2 1/2 months) I listened almost always with the grill off. I did listen for about three or four days with the grill on for comparison. On most music, I didn't think with the grill on made much difference, if at all. On a few tunes, I heard a slight veiling with vocals, but hardly noticeable unless I listened critically. I decided to review with the grill off for aesthetic reasons-I like the modern look of the drivers-which is opposite of what you prefer. When I review speakers I normally state the effects of the grill on and off the speaker, but I forgot this time. Paul
