A simple LPad on each speaker will allow you to easily fine-tune the output of the tweeter relative to the woofer output and apparently was part of the original design

Note there are 3 connectors on the LPad.

Here is how an LPad gets wired into an ordinary DIY speaker
Terminal 1 is the ground connected to the - side of the . Terminal 3 goes thropugh whatever caps or other crossover parts there are in the circuit. Termiinal 2 is just a wire direct to the + side of the tweeter.
Figuring out which wire on the tweeter is the ground should be easy. Chances are the crossover on the tweeter is just a cap. In bypassing the LPAD that is no longer there you would pass the plus side of the speaker circuit to the wire with the cap in series and probably just leave the third wire disconnected.
Thanks David, this is fantastic and I really appreciate it.
I'll try to find these and let you know how I go.
Cheers
Thanks, Hodgie.
