A local Phoenix dealer presented the Triton 2, driven by a Leben CS-300xs, to the Arizona Audio-Video Club in 2013. The presentation was done in a church hall where we are able to get good sonics. The sound was a little muddy to start, until we lowered the bass response to a more proper level, then it sang. The sound got better and better as the Leben integrated and Arcam CD player warmed up. It was a fantastic, system, less than $10000 for everything. The Lebens, with 15 watts per channel, from el34 tubes drove the speakers as loud as we wished. The Triton 2s are 91 db effecient and I believe the Triton 1s are 92 db. If I had been in the market I'd wwould have considered the Triton-Leben combo. I've also heard then with the Cronus magnus and was similarly impressed.
Follow Ups:
Nice little integrated,( Leben 300xs ) but I believe it uses EL 84's. Nonetheless, that would have been a interesting little listening session....especially if it were put on by Glen.(Az. Hi-Fi)
Any idea how the Definitive Technology Mythos ST-L compare?
The two seem to be aimed at the same market and appear quite similar to me in their approach.
BTW I hate the name "Golden Ear".
I haven't heard the Def Tech, but they do have a similar look.
They all sound like Home Theater speakers to me, but that's probably more due to the environment where I heard both than anything else.
The Def Tech's and the Golden Ear's (ugh, I also hate that name) should look the same since they both come from (love him or hate him) Sandy Gross.
It seems that Sandy has come across a formula that has been very successful for him. I'd expect him to unload Golden Ear (the same way he did Def Tech) within a couple more years, then introduce another lineup of something else old/new. Past performance usually dictates new behavior, after all. Perhaps he'll christen that latest venture "Golden Technology" or maybe even "Definitive Ear"? ;-)
Cheers,
Al
