I am thinking of ordering the golden ears but have not been able to audition them, I keep reading glowing reviews, but have bought speakers before based on reviews and have been disappointed, my current speakers are aerial model 6's that I have been happy with, but would like to go to speakers with built in subs do to room size, looking for opinions on the golden ears, thanks

I know this is an older thread, but I also listened to these last week and fully expected to hate them, and agree, I don't like their looks at all, but the hype is true. Yes, I did initially tell the dealer they had a great soundstage but boomy/wooly bass, after the next guy in tells them the same, he let me play with them- turn the bass vol back to 10 from 12 oclock, move them away from the adjacent speaker and toe them in to your ear positions, the sound was great, and still not a perfect room and sitting too close. I live with Avantgarde Duo's, prior were Apogee's, these are far superior in almost every respect. No, they don't have that last bit of air like the ribbons, but I think they do everything else so much better than either of these speakers, I'm sold. Selling my tube gear and speakers for these.
The Aerial's are certainly a better looking speaker. The Golden Ears are flat out ugly in appearance.
You are so negative: they are just different.
Can't you be more positive?
I could be more positive... I'm positive they are ugly. But we have to note that in spite of how ugly they are, they just don't sound good.
tell us o great polleti, what marvel of speaker engineering are you using today since your profile says you change too often to comment? we want to learn from your greatness.

I've actually heard these speakers. I have stated my position. If you don't like my opinion, tough. You have your opinion.
what's the matter, afraid of the question? what speakers do you run o great and all knowing? i want to go hear them and see if they sound like crap.
Tom Collins
I run my own design speakers. Pay your own travel.
Thanks for the invite, but I think I'll take a rain-check.
Tom Collins
Whatever. I didn't expect you to step up when I called your bluff.
Forgive me, I didn't realize you were sincere. Sure, please provide me your address and contact information and I will put it on my travel schedule for the next time I am in your city. Can't wait.

Let me know next time you plan to head west on I-64 for a couple hundred miles.
I believe Stereophile will review these in an early 2015 issue. Stay tuned.
For that price I would NOTTTTT buy anything you can't audition.
Also Synergy is what makes a system, not separate pieces.

You can't synergize crap, it will stay true to its nature.
still your pleasant self, even on a different thread. at least you are consistent. no real surprise i guess. is there anything you do like?

So many things, so many!
I think the only thing middleground likes is middleground.
And the jury is still out on that one too......

Did I say anything wrong Ozzy?
Can one actually synergize crap?
A local Phoenix dealer presented the Triton 2, driven by a Leben CS-300xs, to the Arizona Audio-Video Club in 2013. The presentation was done in a church hall where we are able to get good sonics. The sound was a little muddy to start, until we lowered the bass response to a more proper level, then it sang. The sound got better and better as the Leben integrated and Arcam CD player warmed up. It was a fantastic, system, less than $10000 for everything. The Lebens, with 15 watts per channel, from el34 tubes drove the speakers as loud as we wished. The Triton 2s are 91 db effecient and I believe the Triton 1s are 92 db. If I had been in the market I'd wwould have considered the Triton-Leben combo. I've also heard then with the Cronus magnus and was similarly impressed.
Nice little integrated,( Leben 300xs ) but I believe it uses EL 84's. Nonetheless, that would have been a interesting little listening session....especially if it were put on by Glen.(Az. Hi-Fi)
Any idea how the Definitive Technology Mythos ST-L compare?
The two seem to be aimed at the same market and appear quite similar to me in their approach.
BTW I hate the name "Golden Ear".
I haven't heard the Def Tech, but they do have a similar look.
They all sound like Home Theater speakers to me, but that's probably more due to the environment where I heard both than anything else.
The Def Tech's and the Golden Ear's (ugh, I also hate that name) should look the same since they both come from (love him or hate him) Sandy Gross.
It seems that Sandy has come across a formula that has been very successful for him. I'd expect him to unload Golden Ear (the same way he did Def Tech) within a couple more years, then introduce another lineup of something else old/new. Past performance usually dictates new behavior, after all. Perhaps he'll christen that latest venture "Golden Technology" or maybe even "Definitive Ear"? ;-)
Cheers,
Al
The only Tritons I've heard are the 7, under less than optimal conditions, and I thought they were quite good.
After vetting reviewers for years, I'm usually in agreement with Chris Martens. He's very enthusiastic about the new Trition.
I own a pair of Triton 7s. I have owned the Aerial 6's as well, but not back to back. I loved the 6's at the time. I love these. They are very coherent, top to bottom is very balanced and they go very low 29hz at -3 db for a smallish 2 way cabinet. I have 2 amp choices now. First is a peachtree 220 class d amp and it drives these speakers with authority. Second is the Einstein OTL monoblocks and they drive the speakers with finesse. I use a vpi with Lyra Delos and a second arm with a Zu Denon cartridge and you can very easily hear the difference between these 2 carts. They are very neutral with excellent highs if you use quality components. I could have bought other speakers, but I really like these and didn't want the built in subs. My dealer let me try them at home, I kept them.

@collinslaw@fuse.net ; I also took home a pair of Triton 7's to audition, and never returned them. They are worth every penny, and more.
They sound very coherent from top to bottom. I also am driving them with a Peachtree Audio 220 class "D" amp. A very listenable combo.
They are awful. Just get some subs.
Get some good speakers and a good sub.
the wooly sound reported below could easily be du to setup or associated electronics. i have heard other tritons that belie the wooly description.
i thimk i could easily live with any of these but the one goes down to 14Hz! once you get a taste of TRULY low bass, its hard to go back.
...regards...tr
Did you see this review posted several days ago? It certainly makes them seem outstanding.
I heard a pair of Tritons. Not sure I'd walk across the street to listen to them again.
Why not (please explain)?
They are woolier than a sweater warehouse in New Zealand. That was enough for me.
