Quick background, Primary system rogue pre and monoblocks with vandersteens 3Asigs and 2W woofers(pair) M5-HP inline Filter. Secondary set up Also rogue pre and power but with Focal 807W monitors.
Now looking into compact Subs because I found the Focals step it up a notch when paired with subs an filter .
Questions are Will all subs work with HiPass filters placed between the pre and power amps in a similar set up to the Vandersteens Or should I hook the Subs to the pre out and match the outputs by ear. I will still using a Hipass but it will not be in the subwoofers path.
Thank
Roger

Hello John, I Asked and then responded in the hopes of getting a conversation open .You Stated not to hook up the subs to the output of the Hipass and I understand that rational . (if you remove the lower freq. what would the plate amp have to work with.) however for reasons I don't understand the vandersteens subs get hooked up at the binding post of the power amp and the hi-pass gets placed in line between the pre and power amp. By doing it that way you you eliminate the lower frequencies going to your amp and speakers allowing it to work more efficiently and give you more focus and detail. ( the difference is easily noticeable ). my desire is to find a compact sub that will work on the same principle if available . Your method of wirering up the sub may be the most reasonable option but not the only one .. Thanks for your input .
"To compensate for the low frequency roll-off
induced by the crossover, the response of the 2Wq ’s amplifier is contoured to restore the low frequencies to the proper level. "
Best way to bi-amp IMHO
Well, you don't want to connect the sub to the output of the high-pass filter or you won't get any bass. I have a subwoofer in my system but I don't use a high-pass filter for my main speakers. They seem to blend seamlessly with my subs without the need for a high-pass filter. My subs have a low-pass filter set for 80-Hz.
Best regards,
John Elison
See the way the vandersteens do it is you put there crossover (hi pass) in-between the pre and the power amp then use the output to your speakers and run a parallel set of cables to their subs . the panel amps pick up where the bottom registry drops out. the big benefit there is that your power amps are not pushing as hard and you get a cleaner more concise sound out of your mids and highs . Yea it works great but those subs are big and not going to cut it with the misses or myself in our living space.
Trolling?? If trying to find some information from others that know more then I do is what you refer to as trolling then yes.
What was the purpose of your question if you don't want to accept an answer that disagrees with your preconceived conclusion? Furthermore, why are you even asking questions about subs if both you and your wife won't allow them in your listening room? Are you trolling?
