Got my eyes on a pair locally and looking for some feedback.
Thanks,

I was always intriqued by Zu speakers, but when I finally heard them at Axpona was less than impressed with their capabilities on more delicate genres such as folk, gospel, etc. Soundstage seemed flat and imaging was a little congested. They sure could put out a walloping rock/alternative/ECM sound, however, when called upon. Auditioning is important for Zu's. As a reference I was very impressed by the Devore's I heard at Axpona. Likely a matter of taste.
I cannot get past the awful (to me: steely; piercing; painful) sound of their tweeters, regardless of which model. I have heard several models numerous times over the years driven by many different SS and tube amps and my dislike has always seemed to center on their selection/implementation of their tweeters, which seem to remain constant regardless of which model. I have wanted to like them forever (I like their other aural attributes and looks), but doubt I ever will.I have enjoyed them only one time, and that was after Ron Williams (whom I believe no longer works for Zu?) painstakingly set them up. He somehow got the pair (forget which model, think it was somewhere in the middle of their lineup) to sound pretty decent. But perhaps it was a fluke, or my desire to like them that one evening, or gunky earwax buildup.
Point being, best to hear them before pulling out your wallet.

It's probably not the tweeter but the top of the 10" main driver and the whizzer cone used to extend it. The tweeter crosses over at about 10K and most 'high end' problems are usually about an octave lower. We just think those tones are higher up the scale than they are.
Interesting. Thanks!
Then implementing a different tweeter may or may not quell the high freq. issues (to my ears) after all. Depends on how they implement.
Not sure how much it matters, but these have the new Radian tweeter that is supposed to be much better than what came before it.
But I am not committed, I have the luxury of hearing them in the seller's system first.

Could be a real winner then. Good luck!
35(?) watt Bob Carver (Cherry?) tube amp. But still, that tweeter ... ugh!
Hi-efficiency forum?
Yeah, I thought about that. More action over here, though not by much.....
