A bass module is now available for the Clue.
I've heard the speakers without it - they were spectacular and a bargain at the price.

Follow Ups:
I finally heard ( the Clue ) demo'd last night; and I have to say, if ever a standmount monitor didn't need any bass assistance, this is the one!
More importantly, it's SO transparent and engaging; I kept Sjöfn CEO Lars Erickson up past midnight, playing disc after disc. Cinerama soundstage.
...and a bargain at the price.
It appears you can buy the same cabinet from Parts Express for $106. The Vifa drivers run another $150.
What's left is a first order crossover, binding posts, stuffing, etc. Seems like a nice DIY project to me for even fewer $$.
The tweeters are sourced from Vifa, the woofer-midrange, made by Scan Speak.
I've been itching to hear these since they first came out.
If they sound spectacular without the sub why would they make a sub for them. I would think this would complicate things with more hardware?
The Clue loudspeakers are no different than other great sounding minis. While they might sound "spectacular" within their operating range, the deep bass frequencies are not necessarily a part that range. Bass extension for small speakers like this one is extremely dependent on optimum placement and room size.If anyone claims that speakers this small can produce flat frequency response down to 28 hz., be careful to read the fine print. Under optimum circumstances, *maybe* you'd get 28 hz. In real-world conditions, such is doubtful.

'The Clue loudspeakers are no different than other great sounding minis'
The Clue is DESIGNED for near wall placement. Unlike say, a little Harbeth, or other 'mini' which sound closed in next to a wall the Clue's require wall placement.
So yeah, they are different. By design.
It's like saying 'an Allison one is no different from an Advent'.
And I'm not sure I'd call them a 'mini' speaker, more like a 'compact' speaker or a 'bookshelf' speaker. The Silverline Minuet is a 'mini'. The Peachtree D4 is a 'mini'.

Yes, I am aware of that. What I'm implying is that someone at Sjofn KNOWS that truly flat frequency response down to 28 hz. is unlikely to happen in many real world scenarios. Manufacturers publish misleading specs quite often, it seems, but at least Sjofn is careful to clue us in.
If you cannot meet strict setup requirements "Sjofn HiFi wouldn't recommend buying the speaker." (see link). I guess Sjofn quickly changed their minds about that, though, and decided to offer subwoofers as a remedy for those who might have rooms and associated equipment that are less than optimal for these speakers...

See also North Creek's "near-wall specific" monitors, which likewise use ScanSpeak woofers. These ARE amazingly good woofers and can dig surprisingly deep for their size. The "near-wall" requirement simply eliminates most baffle diffraction step compensation from the crossover, allowing a higher overall system sensitivity AND making maximum use of near-boundary reinforcement for the low frequencies. Soundstage depth may suffer a bit from such placement, but then not everyone has the space (or spousal permission) to put speakers on stands way out in the living room.
the search for extra business goes on....
Add-on's are smart from a monetary point of view. You've sold x number of product. You come out with an add-on for it - instant market.
Who knows, maybe it sounds great with the add-on.

I dunno; to me it sort of dilutes the vibe of what's great about these speakers (i.e., ample bass already if set up properly.)
Me, I'm more about the midrange and boogie factor anyway. :-)
Looking forward to an audition at Sjöfn soon (I hope!)
