Noticed something within the past few days with my W70s. These do not have much playing time either with the original owner nor I. My music tastes do not go down deep in the bass region.
In getting my KLH Fives up and running, I pulled out some church pipe organ music that has some notes, the Klipsch Heresy IIs do not even begin to produce so, we'll below 50hz. The KLH Fives handled them with no problem. I switched to the W70s and at first only a hint. As the crow continued, the deep bass got better so, I replayed the cd a half dozen times until I heard no further improvement. Since the bass has become more pronounced and showing improvement. Seems the woofer surround had either stiffened and needed a work out to loosen out other the speakers never had enough burn in time.
I did not play them loudly, only at a polite level and slightly above using a small powered amp so it was the frequency response responsible, it seems.

Obviously he's joking "Since you probably don’t have access to the measurement equipment and test signals here are some easy home brew pre-conditioning tips for the next time you buy new speakers (you should buy new speakers once a month. I need a new car").
Not sure whether you are alluding to me or the author of the article in your comment. The information in the article is not new, it goes back at least to the '50s.
If you note, what I did was not too dissimilar. My speakers go back to around '60. They appeared to have either never been used enough to break them in or because of the long period of none use the surrounds had stiffened somewhat. My usual music is not bass intensive nor loud so maybe not sufficient to get the surrounds to move sufficiently as the excursion on the woofer by its design is not large. The low organ notes appear to had enough energy with volume I played them at to get them moving.
