Any Vandersteen 5A owners using audiophile power cords for the subwoofer amps? I know Richard recommends the stock cords.
I was considering the Audioquest NRG-10 cords which I believe will fit in between the heat sinks on the amplifiers.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Tom

I have the Quatros which have the same issue connecting power cords.
The Shurter plug fits just fine in-between the heat sink fins.
DIY the cable or try the Asylum PC. I too found a noticeable improvement.
Cheers,

I have 5A's and experimented with after market power cords and heard absolutely no difference. I had a couple of extra audiophile power cords and use them for no real reason but to use them.
Yeah, what does Richard know...
I would love to work with 5A's...I envy you. I have had Quatro's for 4+ years now (and really like them), and I switched out the stock cords for some older Elrod Statement PC's with very noticeable improvements in bass depth and control, but interestingly, also improvements well up into the midrange (a bit more detail being differentiated, a tad more harmonic richness, all very naturally realized). I'm not necessarily saying this particular cord is the way to go (although it sure works for me), just that playing with aftermarket PC's can definitely elevate the performance of these speakers IME. I certainly would not go back to the stock cords.
I had to use some Vampire IEC adapters/extenders because the friggin' heat sinks interfere so much. I did see someone selling some 5A's once who had dremel-ground the heat sinks away just enough to allow for bigger terminations on PC's - - smart move IMO, but I haven't done it yet to my Quatro's (resale?). I will do it to my 7's when I have them, by God!
I use AudioQuest PCs on my 5As because one of the stock PCs that came with the speakers had a defective (i.e., shorted) contact that played havoc with insertion and removal of the PC ultimately requiring return of the on-board LF amp to Vandersteen for repair/replacement. The female socket on the AQ PC will fit into the tight space between the heat fins on the 5As.Also, the 3 meter AQ PCs I use allow speaker placement well away from the wall outlet dedicated to the speakers. They are flexible, easy to route and do not call attention to themselves.
(When I lived in the Nashville, TN area, I removed and inserted the PCs often due to violent thunderstorm activity that occurred regularly during the spring through fall.)

Was there a dedication ceremony?
Thanks for the info!
Which of the Audioquest PC cords are you using?
Tom
I'm using a discontinued model that has the same terminations as the current 4 and 10 models.

A good dealer will let you borrow a power cord. I've never owned Vandersteen, but I have switched to a heavier cord on a Velodyne FSR-12 (18 ga. stock to 14 ga. bulk wire) and my current ML Depths (18 ga. stock to Transparent Powerlink 10 ga.). In both cases, there was an immediately noticeable increase in control. Try out some cords for yourself - that's part of the fun of being a stereo nut.
The higher priced wires are known for control: happy electrons just work so much harder...
Tom-
I would certainlly contact Richard for direction on this matter.
Otherwise, Audioquest is a sonic match for the Vandy speakers.
A "sonic match" hey?
