While I understand the appeal of active speakers, I don't see how they reduce cord clutter or count. Don't they still require a signal cord (interconnect or something similar) and a power cord for their amps? In some ways, they may be problematical, especially in a multichannel setup, because of the need for power outlets near each speaker.
What is your experience with these issues?

A pair of active monitors eliminates two speaker cords. It uses the same number of power cords as passive monitors with monoblock amplifiers for a net saving of two cords. If a stereo amplifier is used there is still a net saving of one cord.
In my case, my active monitors are tri-amplified. Were I to do that with passives there would be many power power and signal cords.

The amps in "traditional" systems are usually co-located with the rest of the electronics. And those electronics require power outlets. However, "traditional" setups do not require power outlets near their speakers.
Given that, I fail to see how the use of powered speakers reduces the cord clutter for most folks. Now, once powered speakers make use of rechargeable batteries to power their amps, AND they can receive their signals wirelessly, THEN you will have a truly sweet, cord-free setup. Until then, it's a wash, IMHO...
