I went to see a client Saturday to address some system(s) issues. He has an older set of Puppy 2 upgraded to 3. He has a newer set with another system in a different room. He had concerns regarding the older set.
They were fine, but did have both inferior electronics than the other set as well as an inferior room. The inferior electronics were quite good; a Naim integrated and a Cary digital platform. He added a Samsung DVD player to have Blue Ray and was using that to play CD's. The system has a hole in the middle image easily fixed by speaker adjustment and playing CD's in the Cary helped a bit too.
On the main system no adjustment required. It had the newer Wilsons but with Hovland electronics, a Naim digital front end and better cables. It also had a little room treatment and sounded best.
In a small bedroom system with Spendor bookshelf speakers and another Naim integrated he had the same hole in the middle which was easily solved by moving the speakers forward in the bookshelf such that the speakers front baffles were in front of the bookshelf instead of slightly behind them.
It was a fun day and besides a little money was given A 1929 Crosley Showchest radio seen here. Needs some TLC but is in good looking condition, a couple of tubes and caps but the tuning capacitor gear made of pot metal is shot and I'll have to fashion something to work.

... sold really well in the day, and are really, really good speakers (according to a friend of mine that used to sell them).
I think that after those, the audio voicing of the speakers went brighter and boomier.
I think Wilson with their recent hire of (I can't recall exactly who ... senior moment ... I hate when that happens! but some cat who was an experienced recording engineer) and is starting to trend back towards the tonal balance of the 2 & 3's, but jury is still out, of course.

Hey! I have a blog now: http://mancave-stereo.blogspot.com or "like" us at https://www.facebook.com/mancave.stereo
For 1500.00 a pair of Chinese made Kef LS-50's will smoke those Wilsons!
If he didn't have the WATTs to go with them, he'd be missing more than just some center fill...
:)
Thanks! for sharing.
