Geez memories, a Rectilinear 4, a highly regarded speaker in its day. Julian Hirsch compared them to Quads. Of course that depended on which woofer they were buying at the time. But I think the four CTS tweeters(about $2.00 to $2.50 retail at the time) stayed the same. The Rectilinear X bookshelf was a more interesting speaker.
Follow Ups:
I thought my Rectilinears sounded great driven by my Sansui Eight reciever.
A gal I was dating had Advent Model 1's and a Pioneer reciever. I was at first in denial that her stereo sounded better than mine, but it did, the bass had definition and the mids had some depth.
After we got married we combined the four speakers for a while but the Advents won out and served us for 10 years.
I've never seen the smaller Rectilinear speaker.
It was rare, about the size of an AR2. What was unusual was that it used a series crossover and it was designed like an augmented 1 way speaker . The mid-range was crossed over at 100 Hz and 8 KHZ. I finally found a used one but ended up with IMF Studio 2 speakers.
