With an active crossover and new speakers (not to mention new drivers), it will probably take more like 6 months to get everything set-up just right in your room. At least an active crossover is easier than passive. New speaker position, new listening position, crossover tweaks. Drivers changing because the suspension softens with age and use.But those cabinets are drop-dead gorgeous.
Good luck.

What I meant was that I need another week to prepare the speaker (such as adding sound absorbing foam, wiring ...etc) so that it can start to make sound.
And I agree with you, it will probably take another 6 months or even a year to tweak the system and to break in the new drivers.

In some ways a passive crossover properly designed using a good computer program like LEAP is easier to set up because LEAP can compensate for all the areas in even good drivers that aren't flat(just look at SEAS drivers on their web site and SEAS makes excellent drivers). I've seen a friend design a passive crossover in half a day and get a really good design from the computer. All that was needed was to play a little with subtle changes to get the speaker to his taste(since no speaker is uncolored). But if he had wanted to he could have used the speaker with fine tuning.
You can do the same thing with active crossovers but most people think you can just use a generic active crossover and play with the crossover points and slopes and it's good. The corrections needed just aren't that simple. I suspect if you did do the same kind of equalization with an active system it would be better than the passive one. But that's only if you do the equalization.
And the equalization is not just for flat response. If you know what to do it also affects transparency and dynamics, etc.
I came to realise that for active system there are more than adjusting Freq, Freq slope ,volume level of each band of the system.
For my active system, I recently put in passive notch filter to get rid of unwanted freq range of each band.

you are beginning to understand. Good man. I've been told that LEAP can design an active crossover as well as a passive one but I've only been told and haven't seen.By the way gorgeous cabinets. Are the mids being used dipole? And why no rebate on the mids only?

The mid driver is the Volt VM752. It is a 3 inch dome. The unit has to be mounted from behind. Flush mount is not needed.

Now your speaker makes sense to me. Good Luck. Hope it comes out well.
