I am sure you will like them very much. Be sure and have the tweeters at
ear level in your listening position.

Hi thanks a lot for your valuable reply
But they have bass ?
no seriously ... i have listened already to a 15" DC do not remember the exact model and i was very impressed.
I got the "wall of sound" sensation like in a movie theater. Just great !
But the listening room was much bigger and we were listening at 5-6 meters from the speakers.
So i am concerned a little about listening too close to them (about 8 feet).
I also guess from the specifications they should be quite easy to drive because i am about to make an epical move to tube amps.
Maybe i will loose something in control but i should gain alot in "musicality" and voices reproduction.
I have reached the conclusion that high eff speakers + tubes is the way to go (maybe i am wrong).
But i want to try anyway.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,
bg

With Tannoy DCs any room large enough to fit them in will be fine.
Being co-axials listening distance is not an issue as they don't need a minimum distance for the drivers to merge.
They are easy to drive and efficient but nevertheless they only really give their best when paired with a high-current capable SS amp. With a small(ish) tube amp they will merely hint at what they are capable of.

Hi and thanks a lot for the reply
Perfect also for a quasi-near field listening like my presenti situation
Actually I had this feeling but now i am more confident

The speakers are about 800 USD ... it seems to me a reasonable price
They look ok.
Main problem as usual is that is almost impossible to try an amp without buying it here.
For me the midrange quality is decisive
For this reason i was thinking to tubes but i understand that only very good and solid ones (and expensive i guess) can be used with satisfaction.
I will look to a robust and musical solid state integrated (or hybrid maybe) in case i buy them.
Thanks again.

They are great speakers, just don't expect really deep bass from them. 45Hz @-3dB is what you get. In a custom-made optimized cab they can reach 35Hz but that cab would have to be over 500L!
For nearfield listening this may not matter but for the best midrange quality I'd go for CPA12s and a sub. Not that the 15s are bad but the 12s are a tiny bit better especially if you relieve them of low bass duties.
Hi its me again
I found something interesting i think
" Tannoy dual concentric unit (DC 3836) Genuine 15" as used in famous Tannoy CPA15. Model number 79000226. Build a brilliant two way D.C. system from these 15" drivers. Appear identical to 3840 15" driver as used in GRF M monitors. Superb. "

Hi and thanks again
The midrange for me is more important than deep bass, for now
I am using now a pair of old and cheap Tannoy 611 mk II (in the picture)
They are quite ok in the midrange but bass light
I do not like the idea of subs because they make the system more complicated
By the way " 45Hz @-3dB " sounds not bad to me
They are also extremely efficient
I wonder if 800 $ is an ok price for the cpa 15
Thanks again
Kind regards,
bg
I think $800 is a fair to good price for a pair but it would be too much for a single.
At least for me.
Hello and thanks again
Yes the price is for the pair
I bought once a single speaker because i liked it and hoping to find its mate
It is still single
Only pairs from then
Thanks a lot again
Kind regards,
bg
