If nothing else, it has cut down on the number of D/A, A/D conversions. Also, its allowed 1080p24 direct from my Blu-ray player to my TV. That's a HUGE +. Its certainly better than component connections, interface notwithstanding. As a side note, the connection between my PS Audio PWT/PWD is HDMI-their preferred connection.

AFAIK, the physical HDMI connectors on the PS Audio devices are conveying I2S signals and not HDMI video/audio.

DVI did that in 1999 without all the "assumed-you're-a-crook" baggage.
What 1080p24 source did you have back then?
I do like DVI-much better connection.

And if you truly watched at 24 frames per second, you would see flicker.
My Samsung DLP displays 1080 using DVI. Which is likely why it simply will not work with the *latest* HDMI gear.
True, my plasma multiplies it.
Hey, I agree with you that I don't like the anti-theft crap prevalent in the video biz these days. Their (FOX's) paranoia almost killed the format in the beginning when they emcoded anti-theft protection onto the disc and the machines would play them. We had to constantly wait for firmware updates from the manufacturers. PITA.
Did they give up on that? I haven't updated the firmware on my Oppo in a good 5 years, and haven't had a problem. Did Fox and Sony suddenly grow a brain between them? Just curious.

If it were truly transparent to the user, that would be fine. Unfortunately, like the ill fated DRM concept, it is most certainly not.

Paranoia remains rampant. Like the ongoing struggle seen with Spy-vs-Spy cartoons in Mad Magazine, any protection scheme can be broken. The real problem with the movie industry has nothing to do with piracy.
