In Reply to: RE: can one speaker do it all? looking to upgrade (long) posted by bullethead on August 14, 2012 at 16:47:23
Few can do that as well as the Gallo Ref. 3.5s. And they have the decided advantage of using a proper "boxless" design, negating any edge diffraction problems. The woofer is a very solid, tight affair that has a 2nd voice coil that can be driven virtually flat down to 22Hz - subwoofer territory!! And the tweeter is a marvelous-sounding, exquisite piece of engineering.
For $5k and well under for a pair all day long on Audiogon, these speakers should be on your short list. If the design is off-putting (I find it quite beautiful), look at their Classico series, they are getting great press...

Are those prices for a single speaker or a pair? Do the Gallo Ref. 3.5s cost $6000 a pair or $12,000 a pair?
Thanks,
John Elison
it's priced per pair. I thought the same thing, I didn't have $12K to invest, but it's price per pair (it even says on the web site that it's for the pair if you look again).
I just checked out the specs. I will consider the Ref 3.5. And best of all I can order online which is a must for me. They look beautiful as well, I think I am in love.
I appreciate your recommendation.
b, have you had a chance to check out the new Gallo Classico CLS series? The floorstanders look so likeable. Good reviews too. Good bass. Transmission line. Gallo must be quite convinced of the new design if he had to drastically change from his trademark globular design.
Cheers
Bill
Yeah I looked at them, I like the look of the 3.5's. And that's why I am staying a bachelor. From what I heard the WAF isn't good on the model 3.5. I would never marry anyone who would tell me what I can and can't have, lol!
Supposedly, the new conventional Gallo speakers were designed that way to meet dealer requests, some dealers having difficulty selling the "trademark global designs." As a long-time Gallo owner (currently a pair of floorstanding Stradas + two TR-3 subs) I can see the point. The Classico series definitely look more "housebroken."
