I am looking for sound that is:
- revealing
- open
- clear
- dynamic
- detailed mids
- with real, usable bass down to at least 50hz
Medium sized room. They get played fairly loud. It is important to avoid bass bloat. I know the specs of the two speakers.
Thanks for any input.

I checked your system. With those mono amps it would be a shame not to get the 2's. They are not as bass heavy or woody sounding as the Beethovens. much greater clarity too. The 1's would work too, but with your room size you could use the 2's with no problems except neighboring rooms when you turn it up. Ushers will give you the clarity you want without the need to turn it up to high levels , unless your system is really grooving that day!
It sounds like you are sensitive to bass. I found the Mini 2's to be much more enveloping in the sound. However I know other people that did not hear a significant difference and are very happy with the Mini-1's. The 2's do reach deeper than the 1's. I find them more satisfying. Sounds like you would be happy with the 1's, and augment with a sub if you need it. I have heard them in a HT setup with a sub and they were stunning. You can turn up the 1's swithout having the bass output increase as much as you would with the 2's. I went with the 2's, but these are dream speakers and I will have them for 10 years at least, probably longer. Also, the 2's require a stout amplifier to sound their best. Remember rooms change, and you may move in a few years.

... you might wish to better define what you mean by "fairly loud" -- that's a pretty vague term.
Significant other, or mother comes running into the room and shouts "TURN IT DOWWWWWNNNN!!", you know that it's just about loud enough to be called "pretty loud"...Does that help?

In either case perhaps head phones is a better solution.
