I have a friend that recently purchased a used pair of Thiel cs 3.5's (mid 90's). They were in good shape when he first got them, however, he recently noticed that one of the mid driver has a tear in the paper cone of the scanspeak driver.
He called Madisound for a replacement and they told him that they did not have one, nor could they get one. To make matters worse Thiel wanted $300 just to repair the driver and the speakers are worth $600......
The driver in question is a Scan-Speak type 13m, 8640 code 8521.
Does anyone know where to get it repaired, or where to obtain a suitable replacement.

I have two scan speak 13m8640 mids; they are in literally perfect condition, they have less than 10 hours on them. I'll sell them for $200.00/pair plus shipping. If you like I'll send photos.
I got some replacements years ago from Solen, in St-Hubert QC.
It would surprise me if they still have any, but worth a try, but they are expensive, no doubt.
Thanks, I will forward that info to my friend.

Solen has the 13M8638

The numbers don't seem to jive...
How about a pic of the torn cone? We may be able to recommend a repair method....
Cheers,
Presto
If it's a simple tear, I'd just repair it by working the paper as close as possible into the correct position and then applying a light coating of rubber cement (over the tear only) to seal the cone. It will likely work fine. Thiel nearly always used custom drivers in their designs, and finding something exact, or even close to replace it will be nearly impossible.
