The particular (peculiar?) synergy of my system is based upon the cobbling together of seemingly disparate bits and pieces, with my current lone subwoofer being a "Frankensub" story unto itself:M&K V-2B cabinet, with M&K MX-200 12" woofer, and Klipsch plate amp.
Today, I found a M&K 12" sub on my local Craigslist. The exact model name/number wasn't mentioned in the ad, so I've written to the seller requesting additional information.
In any event, since my current sub cannot exactly claim thoroughbred status, I'm just wondering if adding this second sub, regardless of exact model, should present any particular issues/problems in blending with both my mains and the other sub? (see my profile for more information on current system)
Currently, all the speakers in this system are sealed boxes (acoustic suspension), so at the very least, I intend to only get another sealed box sub (again, I'm still waiting to hear from the seller with regards to the exact model of sub that's being offered).
Thanks for any advice you can offer!

The 8033 I speak of in the thread below will compensate for any irregularities in both your Frankenstein sub and room in about 5 minutes. Set the sub up where it looks ok and forget it. This is a low dollar addition to any system that I can without reservation suggest that can greatly improve the home listening experience. Seriously, cough up the 500 bucks and be sure to come back here and thank me.
I've wondered about this too, with regard to whether I should pair my REL Storm III with A model I or II REL Storm.
Surely the owner can send some pics, especially of the drivers and the backplates.Disparate models from the same manufacturers sound like they might be easy to compensate for differences, but I've not always found that to the case.
A difference in dynamics or crossover/slopes or sensitivty will always be a problem because when you get them balanced on one kind if music, they won't be on another.
The main key to knowing when you have the subs dialed in is when you never feel the need to go over and re-adjust them for a different recording. With mismatched subs, no matter how cleverly you've placed them, the urge to make tweaks in often more prevalent.
I'd hold out and make sure you had a matching pair.
Best regards,
Jim Smith

Since my current sub is already a mashing together of three different subs, even though it sounds good enough on its own, I'm seriously considering the idea that I'll have to just get two matching subs (and put this odd one-of-a-kind sub to use somewhere else - would be an upgrade for my TV system's sub).
In any event, I still haven't heard from the Craigslist seller. It may turn out to be what often happens with Craigslist - the item has long since been sold, but seller neglected to remove the advert.
Thanks again. I'll keep thinking about this, and keep my eyes/ears open to what may come along.
If you do pursue the second sub and it is a different model make sure you try swapping their positions if you have an asymmetrical setup (i.e. one sub in a corner and the other along an open wall), as you will likely find one way superior to the other sonically.
Thanks Douglas. I'll certainly keep all this in mind once I do finally get a stereo sub arrangement up and running. It seems this particular Craigslist deal may not happen (no reply from seller), and I am still a bit concerned about dealing with a mismatched pair of subs. I may just have to wait a bit, and go for a nice matching pair.
Don't stress on it. Just get the integration right- both sealed?
Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
