Hello.
Not really sure which forum is the right venue for this, but since it's related to drivers, here we go: I want to build 2 subs to use with my hi-fi and would like to hear recommendations for good drivers. Over at another forum, more focused on home theater, people talk a lot about TC Sounds drivers. From these I´m considering two LMS-R 15".
Each driver would have it's own sealed enclosure and both subs would play the summed up signal from L & R comming from a DSPeaker Anti-Node 8033S-II.
My speakers are B&W 804S.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Rythmik Audio- their sub drivers are very good, not as nice as what you're looking at- UNTIL you run them servo controlled. They still won't have the ultimate output of the TCs but for normal use will sound better.
Creative Sound also makes excellent subs.
Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.
badman,
Thanks for the tip on Rythmik. They look interesting and I've sent them an inquiry. How would you compare them to TC Sounds?
From the website, Rythmik seems squarely focused on music while TC more on home theater and kids blowing their car rooftops off? I can't get over people using 2 of those monsters inside a car, let alone hi-fi aspects!
Yet the TC Sounds also seem to perform very well. Not cheap though, neither to buy nor to power.
Also checked the Creative Sounds, but I think they are not what I'm looking for. Nevertheless, thanks for that tip too!
Thanks!
Will provide excellent deep bass for both music and movies, but the TC sounds are in a class with very few competitors for the maximum output from a driver. But if you use a couple, which you should to spread the room modes around a bit, anyway, the rythmiks will not run out of steam- they will go LOUD in singles, but just not the world-class output of the TC.

Badman,
Rythmik looks interesting indeed. And their explanations about servo make sense - to me anyway.
Any experience with JL W7 driver? Needless to say JL subs are very well regarded. But their sub driver?
thanks for the input!
None with that driver sorry.

If it were for Home Theater, I'd say "What-everrr...". But for music, use independent left and right subs if you are interested in getting the best quality audio from your system.
I would also back away from two 15" subs supporting two 6.5" woofers: you will be disappointed. I would go with two 12" subs or possibly two 10" subs (if they're high quality).
Joe,
You wrote: "I would also back away from two 15" subs supporting two 6.5" woofers: you will be disappointed. I would go with two 12" subs or possibly two 10" subs (if they're high quality). "
Why would I be disappointed? Never heard of size of woofers vs size of subwoofers being a factor. I'm not disputing the notion - just trying to learn about it.
Thanks!
Going the 12"/10" route, the drivers and cabinets would cost less (this is a DIY project) and the subs would be less space intrusive objects in the room. The 15" drivers and resulting cabinets would appear to be overkill on multiple levels if paired with your current speakers.
Just my opinion, but to me it would be like buying a 300wpc amp to play music at 35dB.
I would recommend running them in stereo if you are going to use two. That always sounds more natural to me.
You do know the TC Sounds woofers are dual voice coil? So they'll have to be wired either in series or parallel (whichever leads to the most compatible impedance). You might also check out the Parts Express web site. They have Peerless and their own Dayton brand. I've used both in subwoofer applications and they're very good. Right now I use two subs, each with a 10" Peerless and a 12" Dayton PR. They're each powered by a 300 watt BASH amp and they work really well.
Yes, I'm aware they are dual coil. But is that good, bad, or neither?
Been to Parts Express, and have looked at Daytons. Will go and check Peerless.
Why do you have a 10" plus a 12"-driver in a subwoofer? Why did you choose these drivers over TC Sounds?
Thanks for the feedback!
...choose your subs. They fit my design goals. I don't have a 10" and 12" active drivers in one cabinet. The 12" is a passive radiator which acts as a port substitute.
