Synergy has found with some strange bedfellows in this hobby. One might find the "White Lightning" Walmart cable to best the $1000+ cable you once were so proud of. Not likely, but possible. Probably the only way you're ever going to satisfy yourself is to actually audition a few $500+ cables in your system. There are quite a few manufacturers/distributors that offer fairly liberal audition policies.

I find synergy difficult to predict and prefer to avoid high-priced crapshoots. I can understand some people enjoying that sort of thing. Consider the number and prosperity of casinos.
I can also imagine fretting whether I might better have bought the WonderWires than the RitzLitz -- and how would I know?
In my opinion, investing in a a strong, stable amplifier and good quality copper wire of appropriate gauge is a more reliable strategy. I think this is what Gordon Gow was getting at, years ago. If you bought his McIntosh amplifier you really needn't concern yourself with exotic wire which, at that time, was Monster Cable.
As for buying wire at WalMart, it was good quality bulk cable and the price was right. Is there something wrong with that?
All I'm saying is that IF the OP is truly curious about expensive cables and whether they could make a difference, auditioning is the only way to answer the question. All the speculation either pro or con is useless compared to an audition.
Agreed, and if you had left out the sarcasm about WalMart I would have left it there. Hey, I prefer foil inductors and premium capacitors in my minimalist first order series crossovers. You can't measure a difference, but I am willing to pay for what I think I hear.
It's an interesting and infinitely varied hobby. Enjoy it, and the music.
Actually if you reread my post, it's not a slap on the Walmart cable at all.....or at least I didn't intend it to be. I've personally built up two "White Lightening" cables for friends and they couldn't be happier. It's just that it's not for everybody.
