I have a pair of JM Labs Chorus 725's, 3 way with 2-6" ? woofers a 5" midrange and one tweeter. I bought them used years ago with a blown tweeter, unfortunately the original tweeters do not indicate ohmage(as far as I could tell). I have been using them without tweeters in the cabinet but with a ribbon tweeter box on top with filter and L-pad, they sound very good set up this way. Now I plan on selling them and replacing the ribbon tweeter box with a soft dome tweeter installed in the original spot in the cabinet.I later tried a pair of JM Labs Focal inverted dome tweeters(bought online), not sure if they were original to this model of speaker, sounded much too bright and listening fatigue was an issue. The ribbons(Founteks) are amazing. But do not want to sell them, rather install something in the cabinet.
So, the question is, what impedance of tweeter do I use, 8 ohm? Like the rest of the drivers? Would 6 ohm work? 4 ohm?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So for reference they are Focal TPC and 8 ohm and no commercial sources exist for replacement except JMLAB's or private.
They are large faceplate units, not the t90 series and I think they are smaller than the t120 series.

These were the replacements, if I remember correctly. Way too bright for my taste. But at least I know they were 8 ohm. I currently have some 6 ohm Vifa's which I installed this morning. 880-30,000 frequency response, 92.6db. Seem to work fine, smoother than the Focals.
Focal contacted me, told me to talk to the US distributor for replacements. "Only Focal drivers will work in the Chorus line of speakers". Not sure I want to spend the amount of money Focal tweeters cost, just to find out they are still too bright.

Inverted titanium dome, 1". On the left hand menu, click on Focal and scroll down to current drivers. It has the specs for this tweeter. Have you tried to contact Focal? If you give them the serial numbers for your speakers they should be able to tell you which is the correct tweeter.
The tweeters you bought on line may have been the wrong impedance or incorrect sensitivity. That's why they sounded bright.
No, they aren't. Unfortunately, I misplaced the originals, (yeah dumb)...The originals had a silver colored diaphragm and weren't as thick. I will contact JM Labs, but I tried once before and they never responded.
Thanks,

The TC120TD5 is a newer version of the TC120TDX2, which I used in a couple of designs. These tweeters differ from the JM Labs tweet in the following ways: they have a double magnet that is shielded, and the dome is "Tioxid" coated. Your dome is shiny, and you have a single magnet that is not shielded. The TC tweeters are, and thus require the larger mounting hole (although the faceplate and screw hole layouts should be indentical. I also found this tweeter to be almost shrill and difficult to "tame". I too would much rather use a good old veritable Vifa D25AG35-06 (still available AFAIK). The trouble is, if you are trying to use the original highpass filter (crossover) then you can't just swap in different tweeters like that. Resonant frequency, frequency response, sensitivity, impedance, impedance rise... this all changes from tweeter to tweeter and any EQ or impedance correction networks for the original tweet will not be correct for a completely different tweeter.
In any case, the TD120TD05 is still available at Zalytron.com. But I bet you might find these bright... not only that, but the TC line is about 1-1.5db more sensitive than the JM labs version, which could make matters even worse unless the new tweet is properly padded down with a properly designed L-Pad network.
Cheers,
Presto
