This is a new review in TAS.
Follow Ups:
Has anyone compared the Imagine Minis to the older Image B4? The specs are very similar.
Just this week, I picked up a pair of Pioneer SP-BS21-LR speakers. They were on sale for $50 a pair at newegg. I am astounded by how good these sound. Stereophile gave a favorable review of the 41 model. They are both designed by Andrew Jones of TAD fame. I assume the tweeter and crossover are the same. This would be consistent with low cost manufacturing. The 41 has a larger cabinet and woofer so I would assume they have more and lower bass. Even still the bass in the 21 is quite good.
Highly recommended.

The Pioneers are great speakers espcially for the money but the PSBs are a much better speaker again. They image better, have much better transient responses and linearity and have a broader flatter frequency response.
Perhaps not. The PSB is a product of Paul and Sue Barton. It was checked at the Research Lab in Canada. Synchrony features were trickled down. Carries the new dignified name of Imagine, not Image. All new drivers, curved cabinet et al. Does not go too low to spoil the lower mid. If necessary use Subwoofer. Belongs to decent price range, not 50 bucks. Much better than even the Alpha B1 which would thrash all budget speakers and some.

Cost $50 per pair. Value - priceless
I just checked on Newegg and they are now $69.00pr.I purchase a pr of the BS-41's for my girlfriend and the floorstanders for my son and both are excellent for the money. That said I would guess that the PSB minis are much better. I've had theImage B-1 and the Imagine T and both were very good although the Imagine T was in a completely differen't league,as it should be

I only own the Pioneer and cannot assess the quality of the PSB. I'm sure it's a fine speaker. I am not alleging anything except the concept of what constitutes a better value - audio performance per dollar spent. In this regard, the SP-BS21-LR has to be very high on the list by this criteria.
In the measurement section of the Stereophile review of the 41 is this quote from JA:
The measured performance of Pioneer's SP-BS41-LR would not be out of place in a $1000/pair speaker, let alone one costing just $150/pair. Color me impressed.—John Atkinson

Here's a link to a post by someone directly involved in the design of this speaker. It's interesting reading.
A quote:
Also, I can assure you that Andrew is very proud of these.. Andrew has often said "$70,000 speakers should be easy to make sound great, $89.00 speakers on the other hand are very difficult make sound great".

Agreed-For $69.95 you cant go wrong.I'll order a pr. for possible future use
I own both the Pioneer (in my home theater) and the PSB Imagine Minis (in my stereo listening room). I am thinking of swapping the Imagine Minis out - they sound ok, but not $750 ok. The Pioneers I am keeping - they sond amazingly good, and at that price you cannot go wrong!
Yes, they've very good.
They are not as good as these reviews would lead you to believe. For a better (barely, after all..they are very similar speakers) speaker for a hair less money check out the Silverline Audio Minuet Supreme Plus.

I'm helping a friend put together a new system for his relatively small space in NYC. He's got the speakers now:
A pair of Minuet Supreme Plus, and a Rythmik F12G subwoofer (both purchased new). He'll decide later if he wants to get a second F12G for "stereo subwoofers".
He also got a used Shengya hybrid tube/ss integrated amp (from Asylum Trader). The amp is in the shop right now, having what is apparently a minor issue fixed. He should have it back by tomorrow, and we're very excited to finally hear the new system! :)
and they are the best little speaker I've heard in a while putting larger speakers to shame including the abissmal Vienna Acoustics I've heard. They measure a hell of lot better than anything put out by Vienna Acoustics.
Just wondering. Aluminum dome tweeter compared to fabric dome tweeter. I think fabric wins for me however (not having compared them, though).
However, I do like their shape.
I picked up a pr. of Pioneer BS-21 LR's earlier this week and let them break-in for over 20 hours.I compared them with the pr of BS-41's I bought for my girliend: The 41's are in my opinion, much, much better. The 21's sound lightweight and coarse by comparison. The 41's seem much smoother, less glary, and much better balanced. I'd recommend the 21's only for a very small room.
Sort of like being the best hockey team in Peru.
And I didn't say they weren't good.
I'm saying that don't deserve all the ridiculous over-the-top praise they're getting.

Have you auditioned them?

Can you tell how far ahead of the Image B25 they are ?
