Hello
I have just purchased the NAF 25W 845 SET integrated and would just love to try it with a pair of QUAD esl57s. Would I be making a big mistake due to lack of power etc? Any experiences of this combination out there? Many thanks

I'd start by using the 4-Ohm tap of the amp.

...Thanks for the comments...The 57/63 quandry is making may head spin...I can't quite decide which would be best with my 25W amp-unfortunately I can't audition before buying. Decisions decisions...
25 Watts is fine, powerwise; it's a SET's high output impedance that might be a problem. I tried a Cary SEI300B on my ESL 57s - big, bloated, bass, no treble. The treble in the Quads dips to .5 ohms.
As the owner of another Italian 845-based SET, a Mastersound Reference 845 for these past eight years. I know you'll throughly enjoy your new NAF 845-SE! I never used my amp with ESLs so I cannot comment on whether it will drive the Quads or not.
However the Mastersound I drove both my 8 ohm 88dB Alinate Pinafarina Ones, and my wife's 4 ohm 88dB Monsoon FPF-1000 ---{ which JA of Stereophile described as being quite current-hungry. The magnitude hovers around 4 ohms through the upper midrange and low treble, dropping to below 3 ohms in the top two octaves. Perhaps more important is a difficult-to-drive combination of 4.5 ohms and 46 degrees capacitive phase angle at 94Hz, a frequency }--- without the slightest hint of a problem! That was before I switched to using Fostex wide-range FE208ES-R drivers in Sachiko double-back-loaded horns.
As you can see from the photo above I pulled all the stock tubes and replaced the stock 12AU7 with Mazda "chrome-plate" 6189 tubes. The stock 5687 with Bendix 6900 ---{ which was like a component upgrade }--- and the stock 845s with all 845B tubes. I highly recommend playing with different tubes until you find the combo that works FOR YOU, this combo works for me.
Again my congrats on buying a fine Italian 845-based SET, integrated, amp. May you have many enjoyable years ahard of you...
