Some ppl seem to favor planars & claim they are "natural" on acoustic instruments - horns, etc. I think they do stand-up bass well but on saxes they do not sound natural: the tone seems a little bleached or thin usually.
Am I alone in this? Is it really true? Do dynamic speakers just seem to do better tone?
I'm talking about Maggies mostly. Quads, ESLs I have not heard in too long.

You're not alone. I used to own Maggie 1.6s and thought they sometimes reduced the "weight" or "body" of the sound of some instruments, particularly saxes. I still like Maggies for other reasons, but I own dynamic speakers now and haven't noticed any tonal "thinness."
Magnepans are easy! If you don't like the sound---rotate them 5 degrees and/or move them 8 inches in any direction!
I don't think you can generalize about the tone of planar speakers; some sound great to me and some sound bad. Just as with other types of speakers.
