I have a pair of 5.5 cubic foot cabinets and want to put in a 4" circular ports. How long should it be?

Follow Ups:
Choose port diameter first, then determine length.
Joking aside, if you have to ask, you are not ready to do it. Buy speaker design handbook and learn about speaker design first.
First decide what kind of wood you want to build the enclosure out of, then what finish will work best, THEN determine port material.
You need to provide the Thiele/Small parameters. They describe the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the driver. At the very minimum we need to know the resonant frequency (fs), the equivalent volume (Vas), and the total "Q" (Qts) of the woofer. Any other info would be better.
You need to decide what you want it to do and with what driver. What you are saying is akin to asking for a tire suggestion without providing information about the vehicle, the rim and the application.
Kal
For Car tires that is.
