Nice review...I've owned my pair for a month now. You've hit the nail on the head with speed and transparency. The tone of the ribbon tweeter is absolutely supurb as well.
Speakers I've owned and prefer these to include: Spendor S3e and S8e, Merlin TSM-Mme, and Usher Be-718 (still own the Ushers and greatly enjoy in another system).
The Volent is a great speaker and a hidden gem...I've finally reached the fidelity that I have been after!

listen to them, the more amazed I am. I think these will be with me for a very long time.
Your point on the ribbon is well taken, but for a cone driver to keep up with and blend with a ribbon in this way is totally new to me.
They are considerably more expensive than the others mentioned, so they can hardly be considered giant killers. They SHOULD be great for that $, and IMO they do deliver on what they promise.
I understand Bob Harley is writing a favorable review of them for TAS. Maybe then they won't be quite as unknown.

Please dude, don't even get me started, OK ?
I said what I wanted to say, lets leave it at that ?
Well, I for one would like to hear what you have to say about your alleged "distrust." Somehow I have to think there's no real substance to your protestation, or you would have already stated it, instead of just "baiting" it. Dude.
True...they are at a higher price. It's tough to get a good comparison at this price point...most manufacturers don't seem to go this expensive for a monitor, but I can't name too many speakers out their that have the transparency and accuracy as these for this kind of money.
I heard the same thing regarding RH...it's suppose to be a favorable review according to my dealer. Who cares though...I'm happy!
Been wondering if the tonal "Rightness" (for these ears) is due to the tweeter taking control of the 1900 to 60khz range or the cone not screwing it up...either way it is very impressive.
Right now I am playing with more placement ideas. I have a small challenging room and the soundstage is not as wide as the speakers are capable of when demod at the dealers...I'm also hamstrung by 26" speaker stands that I don't want to throw out for a smaller hight that would be more appropriate for my couch height...always something!
According to the manufacturer, the best listening position is with the listener's ear level 3~ 10cm above the tweeter center.
If the ear level is 5cm below tweeter center, the treble will be a bit dark.
