First time posting. Here is my setup. Maggie MMG's, Canton sub, Alesis 250w/ch amp, Oppo 970, Grado cans, Harmon Kardon 5.1 and JBL E80's in another room. I use the JBL's when I play drums and disconnect one banana from each and turn the Alesis back on when sitting down with the Maggies. I like the P.A.-like growl I get from the JBL's but the midrange has alot of glare.
Any suggestions for a replacement for the 4" 100mm Polyplas midranges? Thanks in advance for any help.

Lets just simplify this whole thing
Instead of hacking the JBL loudspeaker xovers get yourself
a dual 15 band EQ and insert it
Simply use the EQ to tweak the sound to your liking
Hacking the JBL's is a bit ridiculus in this case
An individual driver's electrical characteristics (resistance and impedance) as well as its acoustic properties (efficiency and sound pressure level) are figured into the crossover design. Unless you find a suitable replacement mid with the same parameters as the original, you're going to probably exacerbate any existing problems further. What might be a simple and direct solution would be to insert a one or two ohm, 10 or 25 watt resistor in series with the mid range to attenuate its output slightly. Using additional resistors in this way will alter the crossover point to some degree, but probably not enough to notice. Otherwise, if you replace the mid as you originally proposed, it's a certainty you'll have to modify the crossover to some degree.

Good point, I'll try the resistors. Thanks
