I'm interested in changing my current speakers (Silverline Audio Sonatina III's) to Proac 2.5s as I've read a ton of positive reviews stating that these speakers mate well w/ tube gear. However, I've been unable to find a local dealer to review in-person. The Sonatina's are very efficient and tube friendly as well but lack low bass and the three-dimensionality I crave. The Cary SLI 80f1 produces 40Watts Triode or 80 UL - will that be enough to drive the Proac's? Anyone have experience with the Proacs and/or this combo?
Follow Ups:
I'll be picking up a pair of 2.5's this week to use with my 24w 300b tube amp. I'm hoping they will produce enough bass when I listen to rock but don't expect the slam to be there as much as I'm used to, but then what I have now is a completely different animal with the Klipsch KLF 10s.
I'll post again after I give them a good listen but from what I've been reading I'm sure I'll be enjoying the Proacs.

I replaced the Sonatina II with the R 2.5 five years ago and never looked back. The Proac were just so much easier to listen to with much deeper base. I prefer the SLI-80 in triode mode with EL-34 tubes. This combo only produces about 30 watts but still provides more then enough volume. I have never heard the Sonatina III, but Cary Proac combo has a great synergy.
Thanks for the message - Just what I was looking for. I too am a big fan of EL34's - so much so I'm considering selling the SLI80 and going w/ the V12R and SL05.
Are you sure the ProAc speakers will have deep bass? I used my Cary SLI-80 with Sonata-III; some listeners concluded there was little bass, but I managed to get low and powerful bass with proper cables and another amp.
The Sonata's have much more bass than their lil' sister speakers. Cabinet and woofer much different than the Sonatina's. That said, I do like my Sonatina's very much - just got the itch
I would guess that they reach between 35 and 40 HZ but they have a little rise in the upper bass which is nice and makes them sound quite rich. I do like this approach, especially with cd's.
I had ProAC 2.5 for many years and drove them with a EAR 834 amp of 40W per channel, in my room that was around 300 ft2 the combination was great. If I am not mistaken they are around 85/86 db/w efficient.
I just received some D28 and intend driving them with the Ayon integrated (20W/ch) I will comment once the D28 are run in.
