I am looking to buy a pair of Blue Heron's after hearing a friend's set but I have some concerns about the tweeter in some of the models. Since the company is out of business, maybe the inmates have some knowledge.
Apparently there were some tweeter problems in one (or more) of the models of BH's, either the original BH, the BHi, or the BH II. Was this solved? Is there a recourse (fix) if I happen to purchase a pair with a problem? Was it the Scan Speak tweeter that was a concern? Do I have this all wrong?
Thanks for any help...

These are impossible to find as they were discontinued quite some time ago; so, if they do go, you will not be able to find a replacement pair. I spoke to Pat Mcginty quite a while ago and he only had a few fry. A more common problem is that deflate as some of the gas can leak out giving them a wrinkled look. I found that the deflated tweeter does not sound as good as a fully inflated one.
If I understand you, the speaker is "kaput" if the Audux driver goes out. If the tweeter loses gas, can it be fixed/reinflated? Am I able to discern these problems with a visual inspection before purchase (taking into account I have very little knowledge of speaker anatomy!)? farmdoc
Farmdoc,
If the tweeter blows up you will not be able to find a replacement. You might be able to find someone to put a ribbon tweeter in and play around with the crossovers, but it might not integrate as well as the stock tweeter.
If the tweeter deflates you will still be able to use it. I found that it sounds a little softer when deflated. The best time to look for this is on a clear sunny day as the high pressure will make it more noticable. As far as I know it can't be inflated.
They are truly amazing speakers. So if they are still in good shape you might be able to get a good price given the tweeters are not replaceable.
That would have been the Audax gas bubble driver. Easy to recognize by its looks...
